WEST BROM moved seven points clear at the top of the Championshipwith a 2-0 win
over in-form PRESTON at the Hawthorns. Hal Robson-Kanu was creator and scorer of Albion’s two first-half goals, controlling Callum Robinson’s fine left-wing cross with his chest and firing under the goalkeeper Declan Rudd. Jake Livermore doubled the lead for Slaven Bilic’s side just before half-time when he latched on to Robson-Kanu’s knockdown to drive a left-foot shot into the corner. Preston also had Darnell Fisher sent off for serious foul play on 64 minutes as Alex Neil’s side stay six points behind second-placed Leeds.Quick guide

Thank you for your feedback. “It was a very mature performance,” said Bilic. “We looked in control and on the front foot. People are talking about ‘routine’, but we made it like that. We did to them what they were going to do to us – intensity, pressing, second balls, catching them intransition.”
Neil said Fisher’s dismissal was harsh: “At the time I wasn’t quite sure, having seen it back I think it’s a soft one. Watching it back, his left leg doesn’t follow through at all. It was harsh but it continued a theme of the officials all game.” BRISTOL CITY missed the chance to catch Preston as they lost 2-1 at HUDDERSFIELD, with Chris Willock and Emile Smith Rowe impressing to boost the Terriers’ hopes of avoiding successive relegations. Smith Rowe found Willock for the opener, and Smith Rowe, a Arsenal loanee, was brought down by Nathan Baker in the second half, with Karlan Grant converting the penalty.Twitter Pinterest
Chris Willock and Emile Smith Rowe, both Arsenal academy products, celebrate Willock’s opener. Photograph: William Early/Getty Images BRENTFORD’s promotion challenge also suffered a blow, with defeat at struggling LUTON extending their winless run to four matches. Shandon Baptiste’s ninth-minute own goal set the tone and Martin Cranie made it 2-0 in first-half injury time when he lashed high into the top corner. Ollie Watkins pulled one back for Thomas Frank’s side late on but Luton hung on. NOTTINGHAM FOREST moved above Brentford into third with a 1-0 win at CARDIFF. Tiago Silva’s smart finish from Lewis Grabban’s cross early in the second half condemned Neil Harris’s side to a second defeat in four days. Harris dismissed an onfield confrontation between two of his players, Leandro Bacuna and Callum Paterson, after the final whistle. “They came in cuddling as they walked through the door. It was just frustration and it was quickly forgotten,” themanager said.

The meeting of League One’s top two ended in a 1-1 draw. Freddie Ladapo’s close-range effort put the leaders, ROTHERHAM, ahead after 23 minutes at St Andrew’s but Matt Godden headed COVENTRY level two minutes into the second half. PORTSMOUTH returned to the top six with a 3-1 win over MK DONS, while Max Power’s injury-time equaliser rescued a point for SUNDERLAND at home to FLEETWOOD. At the bottom, Corey Blackett-Taylor boosted TRANMERE’s slim survival hopes with a last-gasp winner atSHREWSBURY.

I gather that the little Scouse jailbird was whining about the injury time after his team spent eighty-five minutes in time-wasting. There are times when the abandonment of transportation seems deeplyregrettable.

Great night at Loftus Road! I thought we'd win and correctly predicted 2 goals from us. Warburton made the right choice bringing off Hugil and getting BOS to play up top and Clarke out wide. Things picked up even more when Chair came on for Pugh. At this point the quality was too much for Derby and we got a much deserved goal thanks to starting off with Eze showing Rooney how to pick a pass and Chair finishing. What I've enjoyed this season is reading all the excuses from opposing fans. Always makes me laugh when they say how rubbish QPR are especially after I've just watched our boys walk through their team like they're not there!Reply

Warburton gets a bad rap from a lot of our fans but I thought he did pretty well in the circumstances and I'll always be grateful that he kept us up in 2017. He wasn't supported in the transfer market like Karanka and Lamouchi have been but he did give the likes of Cash and Worrall loads of opportunities early in their careers which we're benefiting from a lot now. His problem has always been the defence but it looks like you've started to turn the corner a bit on that front. Maybe he needs to bring in a really good defensive coach in the summer?Reply

As a leeds fan you find it difficult at home because they shut up shop, forest are great on counter attack but need to break down teams at home, leeds can do it but waste golden chances, if the luck and finishing gets better they will be out of sight and only forest have been the better side against leeds this season.Reply

Found it quite strange - Preston have been a bit of a "niggly" side for us and always give us a tough game. I'm never confident when we play them but this performance was really focused.Reply

i didn't see the game but according to alex neil the reason preston didn't get a better result was the referee.Reply

Once we get back on 2 points per game I will stop frowning. Almostthere.

Slim survival hopes? Bit pessimistic that, granted we've been bobbins all season but we're only 5 points off AFC with a game in hand and a visit to their place to come....Reply

Great performance from the Town against a resolute Brentford side. That’s 3 wins in the last 4 games with Stoke at home then Wigan awaynext up. COYH!

Turns out since being thoroughly outplayed by Leeds that not many teams are scared of Brentford after all.Reply

Tranmere winning, if it wasn’t for the log-jam at A+E I would have gone to hospital with the shock!Reply

West Brom are a very well drilled machine now. Leeds need to fiollow suit and just grind out those wins. I'm sure they'd take another 1-0 win tonight. I have a feeling Bamford will grab it too...Reply

Well with Jon Bon Jovi holding on to Bamford's cheque he'd better. What a great and strange team we are.MOT!

The point about West Brom is they have the best ball players in the league. Pereira in particular would do well in almost any Premier league team - not just his movement and control but the speed of his passes is up there with de Bruyne and David Silva. Can't wait till Newcastle come next week. Our only worry is that without VAR our forwards are being hacked around every week with little retribution.Reply

Get Hal Robson Kanu back in that Wales squad ready for the Euro's. His Cruyff turn v Belgium that took out 3 defenders which he then scored from, as a fan behind the goal was probably my life highlight. And I have told my daughter that. In addition, I was at loftus Road last night, superb performance and win. Eze's interception of Rooneys pass, ease with which he went past 3 players before a superb pass let in Chair who buried it, was the stand out moment. Too late for the play offs but QPR unbeaten in 4 and are very watchable currently.Reply

If only we had won 25 per cent of the draws. Oh well. I am now cautiously optimistic that we will get automatic promotion. Then of course, instant relegation.Reply
