No one else was injured in the incident, which police are investigating to ascertain the cause of the crash. Collingwood issued a statement on Friday morning.Advertisement
"Collingwood can confirm that Dayne Beams was involved in a motor vehicle accident yesterday afternoon," the statement said. "Dayne was admitted to hospital with minor injuries from the incident. He remained in hospital overnight." Dayne Beams was involved in a car accident in Melbourne's east.Credit:Nine News
A Victoria police spokesman said police had attended a single vehicle car crash in Donvale on Thursday at about 4:45pm, when a car struck apole.
"A car struck a pole on Park Road about 4:45pm. The only occupant of the vehicle, a man aged in his 30s, was taken to hospital for observation and assessment. The exact cause of the crash is beinginvestigated."
Beams, who turned 30 this week, has been on leave from the Magpies as he deals with the mental illness issues that saw him take a lengthy break from training and playing during 2019. Beams played nine games last year in his return to Collingwood after being traded by the Brisbane Lions at the end of 2018. Dayne Beams has been involved in a car accident.Credit:Getty Images He had hip surgery mid-season last year and subsequently took leave to deal with his mental health. "Trying to improve my quality of life and meet the demands of playing and training for football at the elite level continues to be a struggle," Beams said in a statement released by Collingwood in December. He said his health and football had started to "feel like competing priorities", explaining that he had reached a stage where stepping away from football was necessary. Beams has recently been using art therapy - composing pieces - as a means of self help. In September, he was admitted to hospital following an adverse reaction to pain medication.RELATED ARTICLE

He spent four years at the Lions, and stood down from the captaincy at Brisbane early in 2018, having been public about his mental health struggles and the toll of losing his father to cancer. Beams was a member of Collingwood's 2010 premiership team, a best-and-fairest winner at the Magpies in 2012 and at the Lions in 2015, where he was also runner-up in 2017 and 2018. He auctioned his 2010 premiership medal, which the club purchased for $27,500 in January, with Beams donating proceeds to the bushfirerelief appeal.
