CELTIC'S SKY SPORTS COMPLAINT OVER ALFREDO MORELOS TRANSLATION BOOTEDOUT BY OFCOM
By Mark Hendry @mhendry92Sports Writer
Celtic's Sky Sports complaint over Alfredo Morelos translation bootedout by Ofcom
__ 42 comments __
Celtic's complaint to Ofcom regarding Sky Sports' mistranslated interview with Alfredo Morelos will NOT be probed by the TVwatchdog.
Hoops chief Peter Lawwell wrote a letter to Ofcom last month demanding Sky Sports' translation be investigated. Rangers striker Morelos was reported to have accused Celtic fans of targeting him with racist abuse. However it has since been outlined that the Colombian did not mention this at any stage of the interview. READ MORE: CELTIC HIT OUT AT SKY SPORTS' INTERVIEW WITH RANGERS'ALFREDO MORELOS
Sky issued an apology to Celtic and pulled the interview from their channel and social media platforms. But the Glasgow giants were not content with the apology and contacted Ofcom. But now the watchdog have confirmed no further action will be taken. A spokesperson said: "We considered complaints about incorrect English subtitles in an interview on Sky Sports News. "As the section of the interview with the incorrect translation was shown only on Sky’s website and on-demand platforms, and not on its broadcast television channel, we have no grounds to pursue this matter under the Broadcasting Code." Celtic, in their initial letter, said: "The statement issued by Sky Television is inadequate. It does not identify the source of the translation or why phrases, which bore no relationship to the words used by Mr Morelos, were introduced into it. "In view of the substantial issues of public interest involved, Celtic have lodged a complaint with the broadcasting regulator, Ofcom, who can seek the necessary answers and adjudicate accordingly." RANGERS HAVE STUMBLED Celtic also published the letter sent to Ofcom in full where they criticised the broadcaster for the "grossly and irresponsibly misleading" subtitles. Ofcom confirmed they received 73 complaints regarding the Alfredo Morelos incident which is filed under "complaints outside of remit". Celtic have been approached for comment.MORE FOLLOWS
