Portugal's Sporting Lisbon defeated Turkish football club Medipol Basaksehir 3-1 at home in a first leg match Thursday in round 32 in the UEFA Europa League. Sporting Lisbon's goals came by way of Sebastian Coates in the third minute, Andraz Sporar in minute 44 and Luciano Vietto in the 51st minute at Jose Alvalade Stadium. Medipol Basaksehir risks advancing to 16 round in UEFA Europa Leaguewith the loss.
Edin Visca's penalty goal in the 77th minute gave Basaksehir hope for the second leg match at home in Istanbul. Medipol Basksehir are the only Turkish club that qualified for the last 32 round in the UEFA Europa League this season. Basaksehir was Group J winner of the Europa League group stage with 10 points, while Sporting Lisbon was runner-up in the Group D with 12points.
The Istanbul club is set to host Sporting Lisbon on Feb. 27 at Basaksehir Fatih Terim Stadium. Basaksehir are in second in the Turkish premier football league with 43 points, while Sporting Lisbon is fourth in Portugal's top-tier football league with 36 points.
