WHAT IS THE PITCHER'S CIRCLE AND WHAT IS ITS PURPOSE? The pitcher's circle is a a circular area with an 8-foot radius measured from the center of the front edge of the pitcher's plate (rubber). The pitcher's circle is used at the 8U level to determine when the play has ended, i.e., when the pitcher has control of the ball in the circle play is called dead by the umpire and runners are placed at the correct base according to their position WHAT IS THE “LOOK BACK” RULE? Divisions of Play. Each WUSA player is slotted into a division of play according to her birth date. Division birth dates are set up according to USA Softball rules and are based on the calendar year: January 1 to December 31. The 6U Division is limited to girls that are either 5 or 6 years old as of December 31, 2020. WUSA TOURNAMENT TEAM INFORMATION Depending on interest, WUSA actively supports Tournament Teams at the 8U, 10U, 12U, and 14U age levels. The "first" team in each age group is generally called the West U Wave and other teams can select their own names. The 8U and 10U teams are formed by tryouts in April and play in local tournaments from mid-May until late June or early July. HOW DO I CHOOSE THE RIGHT BAT? 28-31 inches. 14U. 30+ inches. Get the Right Weight. Bats vary in weight using the designations -8, -10, -11, -12, etc. meaning the difference between length and weight. A 27 inch (-10) bat will weigh 17 oz. and a 27 inch (-12) bat will weigh 15 oz; those two ounces will HOW DO I CHOOSE A BATTING HELMET? WHAT IS OBSTRUCTION? What is obstruction? When a fielder does not have the ball and is not in the act of fielding a batted ball, an obstruction occurs if that fielder impedes the progress of a base runner. The umpire makes an obstruction signal by extending an arm to the side with a fist.
