WROTNIAK.NET: THE OLYMPUS E-SYSTEM The Olympus E-System camera line is gone, with the last flagship, the E-5, released in early 2010. There are, however, many of these cameras around, so I hope these pages will be still of use to many FT users and enthusiasts. Therefore I am planning to maintain this section inforseeable future.
WROTNIAK.NET: CUSTOMIZING THE E-M1 MK.II A gray box like this denotes my gripes, remarks, and suggestions, most often related to the user interface. You may skip these, if you wish, without losing any useful information.. First, some general remarks on the subject. A good thumb rule of user interface design is that the more often a given option or setting may be accessed, the easier that access should be. Therefore, an ideal design of WROTNIAK.NET: OLYMPUS E-5 Olympus has always been cautious and deliberate in introducing its flagship digital SLRs: first the revolutionary E-1 of 2003, then the E-3 of late 2007, reworked from the ground up, and now (more exactly, in January, 2010) the E-5. With the body construction and most of the specifications unchanged (or improved just a little), this may look WROTNIAK.NET: E-M1 MK.II SETUP CHEAT SHEET Olympus E-M1 Mk.II quick setup table. THE ORIGINAL E-M10 Mk.II: 120×83 mm, 399 g The height numbers are a bit misleading. While the Mk.II is shown here as being 3 mm shorter than its older sibling, this is due to a significant reduction in the size of the viewfinder hump (removal of the proprietary accessory port I never liked); the height of the body proper, measured to the top deck, actually increased quite significantly, by about 5 mm WROTNIAK.NET: OLYMPUS E-300, A TECHNICAL REVIEW This is a detailed, technical review of the Olympus E-300. It is based on a final, retail version of that digital camera, bought at my own expense, with Version 1.0, of the firmware upgraded to the latest v.1.3, and the text modified to reflect the changes.WROTNIAK/PHOTO/NEWS

If you are looking for Micro Four Thirds (non-SLR) lenses — see another list.. Update of 2013: Looks like the Four Thirds line of cameras is dead for good. Still, many users are happy with results they are getting from the E-5, E-30, or E-620, and there may be WROTNIAK.NET: CUSTOMIZING THE OLYMPUS E-3 Some time ago I wrote an article Customizing your E-500, which turned out to be perhaps the most popular piece in the Photo at that time, generating lots of reader feedback. It was followed with another one, dealing with the E-510 and E-410.. In response to quite a few requests, here is a similar article about the E-3. WROTNIAK.NET: OLYMPUS PEN E SERIES COMPARED E-P — the original, premium Pen Line The year is 2009. The Four Thirds Olympus E-Series of SLRs seems to be in full swing, with three models released that year, in three different market segments: the E-30, E-620, and E-450.We don't know yet, what is going to hit the fan. In the straightened-up "brick" shape the size is 140×62×38 mm (compared to 150×64×50 mm for the FL-36).These numbers can be interpreted as a 31% reduction in volume. Two concurrent Exa lines Over a number of years there were two Exa camera lines, being manufactured concurrently: . The original Exa (often referred to as Exa 0), continued as Exa I: this line was undergoing a normal evolution, being manufactured between 1952 and 1970.Their viewfinders were interchangeable with Exakta. The mirror was used as a part of the shutter, and speeds were limited toWROTNIAK.NET: KIEV
The Contax, introduced around 1933, was a major competitor to Leica. The Soviets were making imitations of both these camera lines, their FED and Zorki Leica clones being more pedestrian, the Kievs — more sophisticated (and much more expensive). WROTNIAK.NET: OLYMPUS E-M1X Olympus E-M1X digital camera commentary . Micro Four Thirds The Micro Four Thirds (of just μFT) is the standard, developed by Olympus and Panasonic, defining the sensor size, lens mount, and lens-to-camera interface, so that cameras and lenses conforming to it are guaranteed to work together. It is intended for mirror-less interchangeable-lenscameras.
WROTNIAK.NET: DARK NOISE IN OLYMPUS E-M5 AND E-M1 At the lowest light levels (i.e. longest exposures and/or highest ISO settings), the dark noise becomes one of the factors limiting the image quality. This noise consists of two components: static (pixel-to-pixel within the same frame) and random (frame-to-frame forthe same pixel).

This pandemics is not just a conversation item. _Picture of the Week (Year?)_: _The Triumph of Death_,
painted by Pieter Bruegel the Elderaround 1562
(Prado Museum, Madrid). While the picture does not overwhelm you with the first impression, a closer scrutiny will be immensely rewarding: you will find dozens (perhaps a hundred or so) quite delightful, even if often disturbing, mini-stories or lore references. (Then you come back a month later and find a few more, quite obvious ones.) A treasure hunt, indeed! Have a look for yourself. The Flipper below shows a selection of such fragments. Quite entertaining, I'd say. Did I mention disturbing? _The Triumph of Death_ by Pieter Bruegel the Elder.
