TURKEY’S FIRST TRANSPORT NETWORK, ‘KAVŞAK,’ WILL DEVELOP
COLLABORATIVE SOLUTIONS FOR SUSTAINABLE, INCLUSIVE URBAN MOBILITY
On September 18th at European Mobility Week, WRI Turkey Sustainable
Cities and partners launched “Kavşak,” a first-of-its-kind
multi-sectoral network established to improve sustainable urban
transport in Turkey.

2020 LEE SCHIPPER MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP AWARDED TO ABISAI KONSTANTINUS,
JUNGWOO CHUN AND FARIBA SIDDIQ
Three new researchers – Abisai Konstantinus, Jungwoo Chun and Fariba
Siddiq – have been awarded the Lee Schipper Memorial Scholarship for
Sustainable Transport and Energy Efficiency. Since 2012, the
international scholarship has been awarded annually to two outstanding
research candidates, recognizing transformative research proposals
that challenge conventional wisdom in sustainable transport and energy
efficiency. This year, with support from the Volvo Research and
Educational Foundation (VREF), a third scholarship was added, tailored
specifically to African researchers.

SUPPORTING GREEN AND EQUITABLE URBAN RECOVERY AFTER COVID-19
JOHANNESBURG (OCTOBER 30, 2020) – The South Africa National
Department for Cooperative Governance, WRI Ross Center for Sustainable
Cities and the Coalition for Urban Transitions announced a new
partnership to help achieve a more green and equitable recovery for
cities in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.

9 STARTUPS ADMITTED TO AFRICA TRANSFORMATIVE MOBILITY ACCELERATOR
On September 21, WRI and partners in the Africa Mobility Initiative
(AMI) selected nine startups
for the 2020/2021 cohort through AMI’s Africa Transformative
Mobility Accelerator (ATMA). AMI’s vision is to create a vast
network of continental and global transformative mobility enthusiasts,
who work together to create sustainable and scalable solutions to
mobility challenges in Africa.

CAMPAIGN TO PROMOTE HEALTHY, SUSTAINABLE TRANSPORT DURING COVID-19
LAUNCHED IN ISTANBUL
On September 28, in collaboration with WRI Turkey Sustainable Cities
and with support from the Partnership for Healthy Cities, Istanbul
Metropolitan Municipality launched a risk communication and public
information campaign to promote active mobility and safe use of public
transit amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
