All Eau Claire buses had a front seat reserved Tuesday. A poster explaining the reservation that also briefly explained Rosa Park's significant contribution to the civil rights movement. It also listed several books offered at the L.E. Phillips Library, where you can learn more about Rosa Parks. Eau Claire Transit manager, Tom Wagner, said the city decided to partake in Transit Equity Day, after the city manager was asked to join by a member of the transit union. "A lot of people sometimes take public transit in communities for granted," Wagner said. "There's a lot that has gone on, and there's a lot that public transit brings to a community, and one of those things is transportation for everyone, not just a few." Rosa Parks refused to give up her seat in a segregated Alabama bus in December of 1955, leading to the year-long boycott of buses inMontgomery.
Wagner said he hopes everyone that rode the bus, will take time to remember those that have gone before us to make transportation accessible to everyone.MCKENNA ALEXANDER
