WIND-WORKS: HR3
The HR3 was designed for remote, battery-charging applications. The HR in its designation was for High Reliability and it lived up to its billing. In 1981 Art and Maxine Cook installed a 3 kW wind turbine on their farm in western Pennsylvania’s Somerset County. For nearly three decades Northern Power Systems’ HR3 had sat atop a 60-foot (18 WIND-WORKS: HONEYWELL WINDTRONICS Honeywell Windtronics. The following are a series of articles about the "Honeywell" Windtronics roof top wind turbine. This design first came to prominence in western Michigan in late 2008. The development, promotion, and marketing of this design should serve as a cautionary tale. At the time, the wind turbine was hyped as "revolutionary". WIND-WORKS: RESUME OF PAUL GIPE 1976 to 1984. Paul Gipe & Associates: Principal. Provided full range of technical services with an emphasis on technical writing, alternative energy development, and environmental impact analysis. Provided seminars, workshops, and training aids. Provided turnkey installation of wind turbines. WIND-WORKS: PINSON CYCLOTURBINE Pinson Cycloturbine by Paul Gipe. The Pinson Cycloturbine was developed by Herman Drees one of American wind energy’s pioneers in the 1970s. Meyer, one of the pioneers of wind energy in the United States, was the founder of Windworks, a wind turbine manufacturer in Mukwonago, Wisconsin in the 1970s. In the early 1980s Meyer changed the name of his company to Omnion Power Engineering, abandoning use of the term Windworks. In 2003 I launched this web site with the domain name ofwind

The U.S. Bureau of Land Management estimated that removal of a turbine and tower would cost $1,500-$2,500. Removal of the foundation and wiring could add another $1,500-$2,500; revegetation of disturbed soil, another $500-$700. WIND-WORKS: WINDTAMER DUCTED WIND TURBINE FINALLY AND Windtamer Ducted Wind Turbine Finally and Officially Kaput. It went by various incarnations, but it was founded as Windtamer by one Gerald Brock and it finally and officially is gone. Windtamer’s successor, Arista Power, filed for bankruptcy in early 2016. See Arista Power files Chapter 7 bankruptcy . It’s hard to imagine that this sad saga WIND-WORKS: WIND GENERATION ALSO GOOD MATCH WITH PEAK At 60 meters, wind picks up at night. Closer to the ground, the strongest wind is in the middle of the day. Our wind turbines are on 30 to 37 m towers. They are for distributed generation and sized to fit in the landscape of schools, farms, factories, municipal buildings. At lower hub heights, wind energy peaks much closer to peakdemand.
WIND-WORKS: AEROVIRONMENT'S AVX 1000 ROOFTOP TURBINES AT The diameter of the rotor on the AVX 1000 is inferred from a "width" of 72 inches, or 1.83 meters. The AVX 1000 sweeps about 2.6 square meters of the wind stream. Other wind turbines of this size are rated at 500 watts. AeroVironment rates the AVX 1000 at 1,000 watts. AeroVironment asserts that the 20 turbines will generate 60,000 kWhper year
WIND-WORKS: LEAF SPY--AN ESSENTIAL TOOL FOR SERIOUS NISSAN The Leaf has an 80 kW motor and as you push down on the accelerator, the dash displays a series of dots to the right of a neutral position, representing the amount of power you’re demanding from the battery. Leaf Spy gives you this number directly in kW. The app also registers the amount of regenerative braking. WIND-WORKS: DO I NEED HEATED SEATS IN AN EV? Yes, heated seats in an Electric Vehicle are a must. And a heated steering wheel too, if you can get it. This is particularly true for limited-range EVs like the early Nissan Leaf, but it remains a useful feature for longer-range vehicles as well. Heated seats use much less electricity than cabin heaters. Petroleum-powered cars--gassers in the WIND-WORKS: SETTING A CHARGING SCHEDULE FOR THE CHEVY BOLT EV One of the costs of using an EV is the cost of properly installing a 240-volt EVSE. The EVSE can be hard-wired to the home's electrical circuit or it can be plugged into an appropriately rated receptacle. Either way is fine. The 240-volt EVSE will charge the EV in a fraction of the time of a low-power 120-volt EVSE. It's worth it. WIND-WORKS: WINDTAMER Windtamer Ducted Wind Turbine Finally and Officially Kaput. Developed by two brothers from the plains of Montana in the 1930s and 1940s, Jacobs Wind Electric grew with the boom in remote power systems that was the bringing the wonders of electricity to remote homesteaders across the Great Plains of Canada and the US. The hallmark of the Jacobs’ design was its ruggedness. It was sold, heavy, and durable.
WIND-WORKS: WIND TURBINE RATING Specific ratings today range from 0.3 kW/m 2 to 0.5 kW/m 2. See Table 9-7. Some turbines, such as the Carter 300 and WindMaster 300 kW, have specific ratings of up to 0.7 kW/m 2, but these are outside the norm. Other manufacturers of the same size turbines would rate them at WIND-WORKS: HONEYWELL WINDTRONICS Honeywell Windtronics.
