WHY WE ARE A "NO CONTACT" BIG CAT SANCTUARY. In reality, big cats kept as pets often have little interaction with their owners. As cubs, the owner spent a lot of time with the cat, but as the cat grew and became dangerous, many no longer had contact. Most big cats we’ve rescued have been kept in outdoor kennels. WHY THE WILDCAT SANCTUARY CAN'T SET THESE RESCUED CATS FREE Our sanctuary exists primarily because so many of the cats we’ve rescued cannot be released or be free. For most, they were taken from their mothers at birth, forced to imprint with humans and depend on humans for food and care. This is what exhibitors want, total dependence so they can be exploited in pay-to-play ventures. SOFIA - THE WILDCAT SANCTUARY History. A white lion family – Sofia, her mate Kimba, and son Gino – arrived from the Buenos Aires Zoo in the fall of 2018. Sofia and Kimba had been born in South Africa in 2005. “If I were to come back as a tiger, I would want to live out my days at The Wildcat Sanctuary.” _Dr. Ronald Tilson – __World-renowned Tiger Expert/Researcher_ The Wildcat Sanctuary (TWS) is a 501(c)3 non-profit, rescue sanctuary located in Sandstone, MN. Funded solely by private donations, the sanctuary provides a natural sanctuary to wild cats in need and inspires change to end the wildlife crisis. Combining natural and spacious habitats with a life free of exhibition, TWS allows all residents to live wild at heart. Each cat has the opportunity, often for the first time in their lives, to choose a path to walk and a place to lie down.About Us
