Gotta respect tradition and tradition states that I need to finish off every year with a post filled with bubbly bouncy balloons. Guess what time of year we’re in? Halloween, the perfect excuse for some dark and twisted antics. For now, I’m going to focus on mood and kick hostilities with Paolo Roversi‘s “The Great Illusion” for Vogue Italy. DESIGN - WICKED HALO I kinda of struggled with what to name this post, and then I settled on that bizarre mess up there. How to properly describe mostly (and/or entirely) animated videos resorting to a red/black/pale color palette (the first two) and russian design esthetics (the last 3) makes for a rather long title, but in my mind, FAIRYTALE - WICKED HALO Truth be said, Benjamin Lacombe’s illustrated take on Snow White was actually released in 2010, but considering (just like I’d already mentioned with Camille Rose Garcia’s take) this is the year of Snow White, there’s no time like the present to look into it. Eugenio Recuenco on the other hand is totally my up my alley and that’s a poorly guarded secret given all the posts in which I’ve managed to mention the guy. I didn’t quite know what to expect from an electronic music gig held at a church (the band may have a somewhat religious inclined name, Purity Ring , but with witch like lyrics about ribs being pulled over cut open sternums , the name thing goes out the window) but it turned out to be the usual kind of stuff with very loud speakers (way too loud actually, the bass was just drowning everything in its passage) and even booze being sold! Ah, I wonder what the new pope would make of that! Anyway, I digress…one of the things I usually appreciate in religion is the opulence and drama of its symbols, particularly the one of big momma, the Virgin Mary (remember this?)so inspired by

ZOMBIE PRINCESSES
My latest post on the wonderful gory world of twisted princesses,
made me wonder what else could you file under zombie fairytales, and while trekking the vast wide world of the internet, guess what, lo and behold, I found not one but two takes worthy of mention! First up is Witit Karpkraikaew ‘s colorful take on some oldfavorites:
Another similar minded version, albeit in black and white, is also available as drawn by Blood Soup Productions:

THE FASHION AND THE FANTASY She’s aliveeeeee!!! Indeed, though I’ve been quiet, oh so very quiet, I haven’t forsaken blogging, I’ve just been on an extended break for assorted personal reasons. I do indeed to return to form in the near future, but in the meantime I couldn’t keep mum on the amazing Tim Walker exhibition at theSomerset House
.
Not only are photos of his on show, but also props and a few behind the scenes videos. A few of the props on show include the giant skull used in Tim Burton’s Tricks and Treats,
and several of the plane models from Chocks Away.
Although photos aren’t allowed to be taken, I did manage to smuggle a few quick snaps for my instagram feed , which you can see here, here
and here
.
The outcome of going to the exhibition was that I was so enchanted with the whole thing that I ended up purchasing his new bookStoryteller
(I already had Pictures,
so this was a nice companion piece and addition to the library). The exhibit is going to be on until the end of January, so if you have a chance, do try to see it. And just as a quick refresher here’s a suiting Tim Walker refresher, his editorial “The Fashion and The Fantasy”, all very typically British and fantastically themed.Posted in Editorial

PAPER PLATES
It’s been a long silent period on my part, for which I apologize, but the last months have been something of a bumpy ride that left me with very little free time, but I hope to make up for it and resume regular blogging in the near future. In the meantime and living in London, there’s obviously an inescapable event just around the corner: the Olympics. While in the past I’ve been pretty much oblivious to all the hoopla surrounding the big O, this year, considering I’m living in London, it will be hard to maintain that same kind of indifference. Vogue UK enlisted Tim Gutt to create a paper fantasy based in the Olympics. Now, if only working out was so easy and delightful as looking glam in paperwork scenario!Posted in Editorial
