WEATHER TO SKI’S TOP 10 SNOWIEST SKI RESORTS With an annual snowfall average of around 16.5m, Mount Baker is the snowiest ski resort in North America, if not the world!. Alyeska (Alaska) claims a similar average – but only at the very top of its ski area. Mount Baker's measuring point is mid-mountain, less exposedand
WEATHER TO SKI
Snowfall patterns and weather forecasts in the French Alps can be difficult to generalise, given the significant geographic range and varied topography of the mountains. Broadly speaking, there are two climatic zones - the north and the south - however, there is some degree of overlap between the two, and both regions also include numerous areas with micro-climates of their own.WEATHER TO SKI
Taken in isolation, the main Flaine bowl is arguably the most reliable ski area in the Haute Savoie.. Firstly, it has a renowned micro-climate and is known to get a lot of snow - close to 6m a season at resort level, which brought it close to our top 10 snowiest ski resorts in the Alps.. Even more impressive, however, is the 15m (annual snowfall) at the summit of the Grandes Platières (2480m WEATHER TO SKI’S GUIDE TO WEATHER AND SNOW CONDITIONS FOR Weather to ski provides you with daily snow news and regularly updated snow reports and weather forecasts throughout the ski season. REMEMBER! - Our snow reliability guides are just that – guides, not guarantees! Don’t assume that a resort with a good snow record will always deliver or that one with a poor record won’t. Even Snowbird and Alta have had “iffy” seasons, though this doesn’t happen often of course and, by most European standards, they would probably still be considered as good. WEATHER TO SKI’S TOP 10 POWDER DESTINATIONS Alta and Snowbird are the undisputed powder kings of the world. Only a handful of ski resorts can match their immense snowfall (such as Mount Baker), but they are in a league of their own when it comes to quantity and quality of snow combined.. Note: Neighbouring Brighton and Solitude are almost in the same league, but with fewer weekendcrowds!
WEATHER TO SKI’S TOP 10 SNOWIEST SKI RESORTS Warth and Schröcken share the snowiest ski area in Europe, with a seasonal average of 10.5m. Other nearby villages are also super-snowy, such as Damüls, which gets over 9m a season and markets itself as the "snowiest village in the world".. Whichever village comes out top, there is no doubt that this little corner of Austria is the snowiest region in WEATHER TO SKI’S TOP 10 SNOW-SURE SKI RESORTS There are many more resorts that might be considered "snow-sure" in North America than there are in Europe. On the whole, North American ski resorts do get more snow (though this is not always as clear cut as many people presume). What makes the Aiguille Rouge one of my favourite pistes in the Alps is the sheer variety of terrain on offer as you drop 2000m vertical through a number of climatic zones. The top (3200m) is what you might call “high alpine” terrain, offering wonderful 360° views across the Alps. A new sky-bridge viewing platform was installed here in 2018, allowing skiers (and pedestrians) to get upWEATHER TO SKI
L'Espace Killy (Val d'Isère and Tignes) is often regarded as having the most reliable snow in the Alps, primarily due to the extent of its high altitude skiing (60% of its 300km of slopes are above 2500m).. Although it's on the northern side of the Alps, its proximity to the Italian border means that snow can also arrive from the south-east, a privilege not extended to other nearby megaWEATHER TO SKI
The winter climate in Banff and Lake Louise is drier and colder than in Whistler (its main rival for a share of the Canadian UK ski market). Powder days are therefore fewer, but the risk of rain is negligible and snow quality is more consistent across the mountains asa whole.
