When he saw Kid Capri spinning ’70s and ’80s funk and disco records, he was inspired to get the crowd back in Japan more involved with this type of music. One of the band’s most prominent figures, off stage she became lovers with Sly, giving birth to their daughter, Sylvyette “Phunne” Stone, in 1976. BARRY WHITE’S PASSION TOOK HIM TO THE HEIGHTS OF MUSIC I t was winter of 1994, and I had just scored a sweet assignment to interview the king of “champagne soul,” Barry White, in Europe. Arriving at the chaotic passport office the following morning, the middle-aged woman behind the counter popped her sweet, sticky gum andsmirked.
