12 PRINCIPLES OF TRAINING ISOLATE, SEPARATE, RECOMBINE. Anytime you are asking a horse to do two or more things at once they need to know them perfectly well separately. When you put them together and it is not working you need to mentally isolate the one that is not working, separate it and correct the issue before recombining them.FOCUS AND BEND

THEY ALREADY KNOW SOME ANSWERS They Already Know Some Answers. In groundwork, you start having a conversation with your horse with answers he already knows. Yielding front end and yielding hind end are usually the first things. A horse already knows this because as a foal, the mother (and other horses if in a herd situation) would have taught the foals these things. FOCUS FOR RELAXATION Focus For Relaxation. Once you have connection, you want to teach your horse how to reset their nervous system. Depending on what behaviors you see with your horse in front of you will depend on what exercise you do to help them relax. WON'T LUNGE ONE WAY
Won’t Lunge One Way. If your horse won’t lunge one way, go back and ensure that the horse is completely comfortable with you on that side of their body, be aware of blocking and stress indicators. PUSHY ON THE GROUND (DIFFERENT FROM DISTRACTED) Success Tips: - You have to calmly elect not to engage with them, but you cannot be defensive, and try to prevent them from pushing into you, nor can you be fearful, and shrink away from them.
