BC is a global centre of excellence for the industry. Vancouver is home to over 800 mineral exploration and mining companies and world class educational and training institutions. Companies throughout BC are world leaders and innovators in research, training, and development for a global industry. We all benefit from minerals everyday.
MINERAL EXPLORATION FACTS Mineral and coal exploration and development also generate significant economic activity throughout BC. From 2010-2016, over $2.7 billion was spent to explore, discover and develop more mineral and coal resources in the province. Most of BC’s 800 mining and exploration companies are based in urban areas where most of the money for exploration COAL MINING INDUSTRY FACTS B.C. Coal Resources British Columbia has 12.9 billion tonnes of potentially mineable coal resources. Coal is primarily located in the East Kootenay coalfields in southeast BC (8 billion tonnes) and the Peace River coalfield in northeast BC (4.9 billion tonnes).NATALIE FLETCHER
