Once upon a time, over 400 years ago, a natural spring welled up from the ground. And it was named “The Tunbridge Wells” (the wells nearTonbridge).
Today this charming historic town is where the smart people go for their vacation or mini-break! Only a 50 minute train ride from London, see how royalty used to holiday, enjoying the unspoilt beauty of the surrounding High Weald and the elegant charm of The Pantiles walkway. For years Queen Anne visited but when Queen Victoria made the town part of her regular holiday sojourns ‘Royal’ Tunbridge Wells, the town, came into being in the wider region of Tunbridge Wells. HOLIDAY AWAY FROM THE HUSTLE AND BUSTLE Of all the places to go in Kent, this is the perfect stop off between London and the Coast, whether driving, cycling or taking the train. Our range of accommodation at great prices mean you can do so much more, and my goodness there are so many things to do!
We have over 50 attractions and more than 100 events , not to mention numerous annual festivals and markets throughout the year, to enjoy in the surroundingarea.
No matter what the weather, and of all the things to do in Kent, Tunbridge Wells is a vibrant ‘town and country at its best'. Looking out over Tunbridge Wells Common has been likened to “looking out over a coastal cliff” at the “happy, hilly, well heeled” town of Royal Tunbridge Wells (Kent Life). Across the region there is a lively live music scene encompassing rock, opera, classical and jazz in forests and parks, in pubs , hotels and restaurants alike not forgetting the famous Forumvenue.
Bookmark What's On so you don't miss a thing. FRESH AIR IN THE GARDEN OF ENGLAND Pull on your wellies, wrap up and admire the rich woodlands and flora of the Garden of England along a myriad of footpaths and parks in quintessential Englishcountryside.
If you’re adventurous, climb the curious sandstone rock formations near the town of Royal Tunbridge Wells. With most of the region designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and dotted with ancient churches and oast houses, there is plenty of opportunity to soak up the English rural scenery which inspired greats such as Thackeray, EM Forster, Chagall and TattershallDodd I.
RELAX IN STYLE IN THE COUNTRYSIDE Stay in the Wealden villages , typical traditional English villages, with duck pond, pub, roast dinners and local fêtes aplenty (where you will find traditional morris dancing, pram racing and of course wheelbarrow displays!). Two larger villages have delicious tales to tell of their own: medieval Cranbrook , used to be the Capital of the Weald as the centre of the cloth industry and Hawkhurst , known for its smuggling gangs of old! Alternatively in the stylish Regency town of Royal Tunbridge Wells, pose in The Pantiles, next to the Chalybeate Spring, where the dandies
used to dawdle.
The iron rich waters were supposed to "cure all ills"! There are countless delectable restaurants (even al fresco dining) and shops galore to lose yourself in, from laid back indie styles to unique boutiques, you’ll easily find that exclusive item to show off back home. In Royal Tunbridge Wells you must take the self-guided HeritageWalking Trail
and get the insider info on its fascinating spa town history. Equally captivating guided tours for groups are available too. With so many stately homes, gardens and parks, it’s easy enough to grab your Wolf Hall moment of intrigue in the mysterious corridors of old ancestral homes or in the grand gardens. Hide and seek anyone?! EASY DOES IT : EASY TO GET HERE, EASY TO BOOK! Rest awhile in a homely bed and breakfast with a mouth-watering British home-cooked breakfast and get hands on advice about the area. Like your own space? Then there are plenty of pretty self-catering options and a couple of award winningcampsites too!
If you want a special treat, like the gentry of old, pamper yourself with a luxury hotel stay or visit a spa treatment venue, there’s plenty of excellent hotels to choose from to suit your budget and yourdesires.
