THE HEALING POWER OF PLANTS Seneca-snakeroot contains several chemical compounds that act as expectorants to reduce phlegm in the respiratory tract. Today it is used primarily in herbal and over-the-counter cough medicines, especially in Europe and east Asia. In the Canadian garden. History of the Trail. The Dewdney Trail weaves itself in and out of the consciousness of the people of British Columbia. Surrounded by the Rocky Mountains to the east, Monashees to the west, scored by the Selkirk and Purcell mountain ranges, and cradling the headwaters of the Columbia and Kootenay Rivers and Kootenay Lake, the Kootenay area of southeastern BC has long been a fortress of KLONDIKE - THE RUSH FOR GOLD! As four of the six main routes into the Klondike involved an ocean voyage, there was a great demand for steamships. The first steamer left Seattle for Alaska two days after the news of the strike was first heard and twenty steamers departed the Pacific coast within thefirst five weeks.

Welcome to the Land of the Spirits Online Exhibit. For thousands of years, the Bonnechere River in the Ottawa Valley has welcomed people to rest and prosper along its shores and in its forests. This exhibit focuses on the stretch of river called the Little Bonnechere, which flows southeast from the Algonquin Dome to Round Lake. THE FORCE IN THE NORTH Introduction. The North-West Mounted Police were formed in 1873 and were intended to serve as the "Mounted Police Force for the Northwest Territories". Now seen as an icon of Canada, for over 100 years the Mounties have played an important role in Canada’s history. Before marrying, the men were required to have several years of service completed, a healthy bank account, and the Commanding Officer’s permission.
