Steiglitz is a tiny hamlet nestled in the Brisbane ranges approximately 75 km west-south-west of Melbourne, the capital of the state of Victoria. The few buildings that remain give little indication of its former life, but its mining heritage is revealed by the many mullock heaps and shafts that dot the GOULBURN RIVER CLANS INC. MEN'S GROUP The hole (~30 foot plus long and 8 – 10 ft wide) that was “dug, built or made” is in the perfect position to catch the entire run off of the granite outcrop into which it has been made. MAGNAT 1885-1900

Magnat 1885-1900. T he Magnat was built in Sunderland, England in 1885 by S.P. Austin and Sons and originally named the Edward Pembroke. The vessel was a 1120-ton, three masted iron barque, with dimensions 206 x 33.5 x 19.2 feet, and was said to be a reasonably flat bottomed vessel. The Magnat ashore at Tarwin Lower, Victoria.
