ELEMENTS OF YOUR BOOK Adding Elements to Your Book. To add a new element to your book, use Add Element, found in the gear menu at the bottom of the Navigator: Select the element you’d like and Vellum will add it to your book. You can also find Add Element in the Chapter menu.

FULL PAGE IMAGE

The Full Page Image element displays a single image. Though it can display any image (e.g. a map), a Full Page Image is commonly used to create a custom Title Page for your book: Adding a Full Page Image CREATING A LARGE PRINT EDITION Configuring for Large Print. You can configure a book for Large Print with just a few clicks. First, open Print Settings from Vellum’s File menu. Press More Options to find presets for large print: . When you select one of the Large Print options shown, Vellum will use the indicated trim size and configure everything in your book for Large

Print.

IMPORTING YOUR MANUSCRIPT Importing Your Manuscript. Vellum can import any file with a .docx extension. These kinds of files are often created by Microsoft Word, but other word processing applications can create them as well, including Scrivener and Pages . Because it is so quick to see the results of an import, we recommend jumping in and importing your

manuscript.

Vellum will automatically set Outside Margin to a value recommended for your chosen trim size. To provide your own value, press the Customize button found to the right of the AUTO indicator. Most stores will prefer an image in the jpeg format. If you provide a png or tiff, Vellum will convert the image for you.. Your Ebook Cover and Print. The Ebook cover that you add to your book will not appear in your print edition, where your interior and wraparound cover are two separate files. KINDLE FORMATS

KF8 vs. MOBI7. To achieve the rich formatting in the Kindle ebooks it creates, Vellum makes use of a Kindle format known as KF8. The KF8 format, introduced in 2012, succeeds the older MOBI7 format and allows for features like drop caps, ornaments, and custom fonts.
