WELCOME TO UNIVERSITY OF WESTERN STATES Since 1904, University of Western States has been a nonprofit, regionally accredited, private university comprising a diverse student body and offering highly focused and renowned programs in the areas of chiropractic, functional medicine, nutrition, exercise and sport science, sports medicine, sport and performance psychology, clinical mental health counseling and diagnostic imaging. My 12 year old is small, about 80 pounds and her bag definitely weighs more than 8 pounds American Chiropractic Association do you have any good quality supportive evidence back pack wearing is correlated to pain? The latest review contradicts this post: https://bjsm.bmj.com/content/52/19/1241 Conclusion: “Based on evidence from five longitudinal studies (n=1851 children and adolescents) and more than 60 cross-sectional studies, there is no convincing evidence that aspects of schoolbag use increase the risk of back pain. There is some evidence that the perception of heaviness is associated with back pain.” However the advice outlined in your shared article does appear to instill false beliefs about back pack wearing, pain, and supposed “spinal alterations” which would likely lead to hyperfocusing by both parents and children on the perception of heaviness.
