On June 1, UTD reopened the McDermott Library more than 14 months after closing it due to the pandemic. The library is now open on alimited basis.
JOINING UP – THE MERCURY If there’s one word that can be used to describe UTD, it’s diverse. There are over 300 registered student organizations on campus, in essentially any category you can think of. With all these options, it can get a bit overwhelming to find an organization that’s right for you. That’s why itLIBRARY REOPENED

According to its website, the building will now be open seven days a week. Operating hours depend on the day of the week and can be found on the librarywebsite.
STUDENT GOVERNMENT UPDATE There are currently 24 vacant seats: six Engineering and Computer Science, two ATEC, one Interdisciplinary Studies, one A&H, six Freshmen, four Junior, two Senior and two Graduate. After Special Elections, vacancies still present in the Senate will open for at-large appointments, meaning that any student could run for appointment regardless of PRE-MEDICAL, PRE-LAW ADVISORS WEIGH IN ON CREDIT/NO CREDIT Mercury Staff. UTD recently announced that undergraduate students have the option to consider credit/no credit grading for their spring 2020 classes. Students considering medical or law school face a dilemma to take CR/NC or have a lower GPA. Under the CR/NC option, students must earn a C or better in a class to receive credit. WHAT DOES ON-CAMPUS ISOLATION LOOK LIKE? Christian Kondor, a mathematics senior and student-athlete with the UTD cross-country & track teams, said that moving into on-campus isolation was fairly straightforward. “I only have about two weeks’ worth of clothes, so I pretty much dumped all of my stuff into a suitcase, grabbed some school-equipment and went,” Kondorsaid.
PRACTICE MAKES PERFECT The webapp, developed by chemistry professors Mihaela Stefan and Michael Biewer, as well as computer science professor Ovidiu Daescu and their team of graduate and undergraduate students, allows organic chemistry students to practice a variety of tricky ranking questions. “I have always taught sophomore-level organic chemistry, and I would WHAT’S UP WITH HONORLOCK? Assistant Provost Darren Crone said that since 90 professors have implemented Honorlock into their courses, approximately 2,600 students across UTD will be impacted by the software. JOINING UP – THE MERCURY Joining an organization is a swell way to integrate yourself into the UTD community and find a group of people who share your interests. Adjusting to college life can sometimes put you behind the eight ball, but getting involved on campus allows you to have a PRE-MEDICAL, PRE-LAW ADVISORS WEIGH IN ON CREDIT/NO CREDIT Mercury Staff. UTD recently announced that undergraduate students have the option to consider credit/no credit grading for their spring 2020 classes. Students considering medical or law school face a dilemma to take CR/NC or have a lower GPA. Under the CR/NC option, students must earn a C or better in a class to receive credit. Shadowing is an important part of the pre-med experience, but the ongoing pandemic has brought with it an alternative: virtual shadowing. Shadowing opportunities have been becoming increasingly limited as hospitals try to decrease unnecessary visitors. WHAT DOES ON-CAMPUS ISOLATION LOOK LIKE? Christian Kondor, a mathematics senior and student-athlete with the UTD cross-country & track teams, said that moving into on-campus isolation was fairly straightforward. “I only have about two weeks’ worth of clothes, so I pretty much dumped all of my stuff into a suitcase, grabbed some school-equipment and went,” Kondorsaid.
CHANGES TO AES AWARDS MET WITH UNHAPPINESS A Mercury survey of 174 prospective students distributed through the subreddit found that 76% of respondents received an AES offer in December. Of those respondents, 39.5% received $16,000 yearly, 26% received $13,000 yearly, 15% received $10,000 yearly, 12% received $6,000 yearly and 7.5% received a different amount. UTD FAST-TRACK MEDICAL PROGRAM LOSES FUNDING Cristina Gonzalez, UT-PACT’s program coordinator, said because the decision to cut grant funding from TIME was made at the UT System level, she wasn’t sure about the exact reasons behind the call. “I was sad,” Gonzalez said. “I thought our current students are going to freak out. The new law, which took effect on Sept. 1, classifies the electronic transfer of unsolicited nude photos as a Class C misdemeanor and punishable by a fine of up to $500. ESPORTS EXPERIENCE CAN’T BE DEFINED BY A SINGLE EXAM The exam assembled by ECI was designed to test a person’s knowledge of esports and certify them to work in the space. The study guide provides a quality overview of several topics ranging from marketing to the structure of esports tournaments, but where it all starts to fall apart is the exam itself.
