Dear Friends of the USS Hornet Sea, Air and Space Museum, As you are well aware, there is a great deal of concern in the news right now regarding the spread of the COVID-19 (coronavirus). Unfortunately, some of this information is erroneous and misleading. Everyone on the Hornet is committed to ensuring the safety and security of everyone who visits and works on the Hornet. To that end, the staff of the USS Hornet Sea, Air and Space Museum has been in active contact with the Alameda County Health Department, the California Department of Health, and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control to make sure we have the most current and correct information regarding the spread of the virus and, most important of all, how to prevent the spread of the illness. Following the guidance of these health care professionals we are requesting that all of our visitors: * Avoid close contact with people who are sick. * Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth. * Stay home when you are sick. * Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue inthe trash.
* Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces using a regular household cleaning spray or wipe. * Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after going to the bathroom; before eating; and after blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing. * If soap and water are not readily available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol. Always wash hands with soap and water if hands are visibly dirty. Additionally, we are directing all of the school groups and other private parties visiting the Hornet, that if anyone in their group does not feel well or is showing flu-like symptoms, that they be prevented from visiting the Hornet as part of these groups. Also, to be as proactive as possible and to reassure our visitors, we have deployed at several key locations through the ship, Purell hand sanitizer stations and strongly encourage all of our visitors and our staff to use these dispensers, as appropriate. We have also placed orders from our suppliers for additional sanitizer stations and disinfectant wipes. Once these new supplies arrive, we will make them available for public use. Finally, we are well aware of the public’s concern on this matter and we share it, as well. We will continue to monitor the situation and remain in constant contact with the agencies listed above, plus several other relevant resources and we will continue to be as vigilant and as proactive as possible to ensure everyone’s safety. Thank you for interest in and support of the USS Hornet Sea, Air andSpace Museum.
