JARI NIEMELÄ
Jari Niemelä. I am professor of urban ecology and dean of the Faculty of Biological and Environmental Sciences. My research focuses on urban ecology with two approaches:STEPHEN VENN
Stephen Venn. I am primarily an ecologist and conservation biologist, and my research work focuses on insect-plant assemblages of meadowhabitats.
JOHAN KOTZE
Johan Kotze. Research. My research interests include the responses of invertebrate and plant communities to urbanisation. To this end I concentrate on the effects of various urban features, such as habitat edges, trampling intensity, and greenspace fragmentation in general, on communities in remnant urban forests, meadow habitats, vegetated/green roofs and mires. SILVIYA KORPILO
Silviya Korpilo. My background is in social sciences mostly related to the urban environment, sustainable development in developed and developing countries, planning and management of urban green spaces, and public participation in research and decision-making.VESA YLI-PELKONEN
Vesa Yli-Pelkonen In my PhD research I studied use of ecological information, local ecological knowledge and the role of stream ecosystems in urban land-use planning.KATI VIERIKKO

SEARCH AND PRESS ENTER The Urban Ecology Research Group of the University of Helsinki (Dept. of Environmental Sciences) is one of the few groups in Finland focusing on research and teaching in the urban setting. Urban areas provide excellent opportunities for ecological and multidisciplinary research linking natural sciences and social sciences. Furthermore, in order to enhance sustainable urban development we aim to disseminate our research findings to planners, managers and decision makers. The Urban Ecology Research Group runs several research projects which will be presented in this website. We are also actively involved in the Urban Academy platform.JARI NIEMELÄ
