In 1878 when funding for the first free public library in Topeka was in question, one angry citizen sent this to letter to the editor: “The utility of the Topeka library is very questionable when we find upward of 27,000 works of fiction taken out in the course of a year, to a trifle over 6,000 other books. KNIT OR CROCHET A 20S-STYLE CLOCHE Add a wrap of ribbon and a bow to a hat you have to make the brim pop out. Pinch together 2-3 inches of the brim on a hat and attach a vintage brooch. Fold up one edge of the brim and attach a button (or a double button) with a piece of yarn tied on the inside. Crochet or knit a colorful flower and attach to one side. FOREST BATHING: A WALK IN THE TREES In Japan many people practice something called forest bathing or shinrin-yoku.Shinrin in Japanese means “forest,” and yoku means “bath.” So shinrin-yoku means bathing in the forest atmosphere or taking in the forest through our senses. This is not exercise, or hiking or jogging. It is simply being in nature, connecting with it through our senses of sight, hearing, taste, smell and touch.
