Someone once said, “Man is free at the moment he wishes to be.” What a profound statement that is, isn’t it? We have choices throughout life, and each choice comes with a consequence. Sometimes the consequence is positive and sometimes the consequence is negative. In my life, it seemed like I made more bad choices than Imade good choices.
But I am getting ahead of myself! First things first, my name is John Gorman an adopted son of the Living God. I believe I have been called by God to disciple and minister to men who are incarcerated. Those in prison, by definition, are not “free”. They are confined by walls and bars and are not free to do as they please. What God has called me to do is to bring a message of freedom, hope, love, grace, mercy and forgiveness to those men. To show them that, although they are in prison, they can be free in Jesus Christ. It was November 1993, and I was facing a 20- to 50- year prison sentence for dealing cocaine. “How did I get here?”, “How was I going to get out of this situation?” were questions running through my mind. I was scared to death. The last thing I wanted to do was to go to prison, but that is exactly what happened. Read the rest of this entry » BIRTHDAY PARTY FOR JESUS 2015!! As Christmas approaches we are preparing to sponsor a dormitory, for our 3rd consecutive year, of 60 men at IREF. Your support helps us deliver the Love of Christ to these men who need JESUS in their lives. We will be providing a meal and goody bags for these men on WednesdayDecember 9, 2015.
Last year your support helped feed the dorm well and in the outpouring of Christ’s Love we were able to adopt 3 families and make a difference in their lives. //funds.gofundme.com/Widgetflex.swf BIRTHDAY PARTY FOR JESUS 2014 Posted: 8th February 2015 by DAVIDTIX in Uncategorized49
On December 10, 2014 True Freedom Ministries hosted a Birthday/Christmas Party for Jesus. Through this event we were blessed by being allowed to adopt a dormitory at IREF – (Indianapolis Re-Entry Education Facility). We have been working hard to increase the number of opportunities we have to minister to these residents and deepen their relationships with God as well as with one another. Through our fundraising efforts and thanks to the contributions of our donors, God provided a full Christmas dinner and the message of “Hope in Christ” was delivered to men that need tohear it.
The event was a success and we wanted to share it with everyone. Please take some time to look through the images below in our photo gallery of the event.*

– TFM Board President, posing with James Goff – TFM Board Secretary and Treasurer. PENDLETON CORRECTIONAL FACILITY CREW BRINGS BIBLE TO LIFE FOR INMATES. Posted: 15th November 2013 by GREG46107 in The Church0
_(L-R): Volunteer Mike Mertan, True Freedom Ministries’ Executive Director John Gorman, Chuck Broughton with The Navigators, and Wayne Scaife, Community Services Director for Pendleton CorrectionalFacility._
In their partnership with Pendleton Correctional Facility, Chuck Broughton of The Navigators and John Gorman of True Freedom Ministries believe in the value of the individual, and are committed to building solid relationships with men who are still serving their sentence. These relationships strengthen participating inmates on their journey behind bars with God and to help others within their community do the same. The way this group ministers to prisoners in Pendleton, the maximum security facility 30 miles northeast of downtown Indianapolis, is unique. “Many of the prisoners in the state prison can’t read,” said Gorman, “or they read at such a low level that it’s difficult for them to read the Bible. The men we mentor through this program can read quite well and it’s their responsibility to go back to their cells and share with their cellmates what they’ve learned.” That’s why the international ministry Navigators has developed an oral discipleship program based on story telling, and formed partnerships with local prison ministries such as True Freedom. Men learn Bible stories recorded on a MegaVoice machine (think “solar-powered iPod®”). Leaders are trained to tell God’s story, my story, and your story. The group leader plays a story from the Bible and group members learn it together. They discuss recorded questions about the story and about life issues. Then the leader shares an event from his life (my story) and a lesson he learned. Group members are encouraged to tell stories from their lives (yourstory).
“The Bible becomes interactive and relevant to each man,” says Gorman. Group members also use the machine to memorize Bible verses. “We’re training inmates and hope to have 34 to 40 of them certified as Bible story tellers,” says Gorman. “This discipleship program is now part of the Pendleton Correctional Facility, and we’d like to see the same thing happen in other facilities in the state.” -------------------------SOCIAL CONNECTIONS
