TRANSPORTATION
Portland Trails is a non-profit urban land trust that maintains 70 miles of hiking, walking, and biking trails throughout GreaterPortland.
FOREST CITY TRAIL
Activities: Activities will vary depending on trail section. Created to celebrate our 20th anniversary, this 10-mile route across the best of Portland comprises 9 trails, school campuses, several parks, an historic cemetery, two waterfalls (!), and connecting sidewalks. On the Portland Trails V4 map, the Forest City Trail is indicated inyellow.

STROUDWATER TRAIL
Length: 3.3 miles. Activities: Hiking, mountain biking, dog-friendly, foliage, excellent for snowshoeing and cross country skiing. This densely wooded trail follows the winding banks of the Stroudwater River from the historic Stroudwater Village area to Smiling Hill Farm. Benches have been provided at scenic outlooks, and there are a numberof
EASTERN PROMENADE TRAIL Accessible by: Bus 1 and Bus 8. Length: 2.1 miles. Activities: Handicapped accessible, dogs on leash, running, biking, birding, benches. This waterfront trail built along an old rail corridor offers spectacular harbor and ocean views. Benches and picnic tables are located along the route and at East End Beach. FORE RIVER SANCTUARY » PORTLAND TRAILS Accessible by: Bus 4 and Bus 5. Length: 5.6 miles. Activities: Dogs allowed off-leash, mountain biking, snowshoeing, cross country skiing, birding, wildlife spotting, contemplative waterfall gazing. This 85-acre preserve is the home of Jewell Falls, Portland‘s only natural waterfall, as well as the site of the former Cumberland andOxford Canal.
RIVERTON RAIL TRAIL » PORTLAND TRAILS Length: 1.5 miles. Activities: Handicapped and stroller accessible, dog friendly, biking, cross country skiing, snow shoeing. Long known simply as “Sandy Road” by Riverton neighborhood residents, this trail runs along the train tracks and into the woods, and is great for running and biking. The sights and sounds of freight trains moving OAT NUTS PARK TRAIL » PORTLAND TRAILS Length: 1 mile. Activities: Dog walking, mountain biking, biking, snow shoeing, This land was originally an old subdivision of very small lots, the deeds to which could be found in boxes of Oat Nuts cereal. Today the park features a popular trail that connects to the Presumpscot River Preserve. A footpath and gravel trail through thewoods.
CAPISIC BROOK TRAIL » PORTLAND TRAILS Capisic Park is a city-owned 18-acre nature preserve that affords fine views of Capisic Pond, Portland ‘s largest freshwater pond. Offers great birdwatching as well as ice skating in the winter. Open from dawn to dusk. Moderately sloping dirt path through woods and fields from Macy Street (off Capisic Street ) to Lucas Street (off Brighton BACK COVE TRAIL » PORTLAND TRAILS One of the oldest and most popular of the trails in Portland, Back Cove offers great views of the Portland skyline. Ideal for walking, running, biking (road/mountain) and dog walking. There are benches and two water fountains (seasonal) along the trail. Portable toilets are available in the parking areas at Preble Street Extension and PaysonPark.
