Tennessee has a 91.75% seat belt use rate. 2 Therefore, nearly half of our passenger vehicle fatalities came from less than 10% of the population. Females have a seat belt CHILD PASSENGER SAFETY By 1985, all 50 states adopted a mandatory child restraint law. The following changes have been made to the Child Passenger Restraint Law effective July 1st, 2004. For more information on Tennessee's Child Restraint laws, refer to T.C.A. 55-9-602. Children under one (1) year of age, or any child, weighing twenty (20) pounds or less.MOTORCYCLE SAFETY
The daytime use of headlight is required. The motorcyclist must wear eye protection unless his/her motorcycle is equipped with a windshield. Lane splitting is not legal in Tennessee. CLYDE (BUDDY) LEWIS | _THSO Director_ The Tennessee Highway Safety Office (THSO) is a division of the Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security advocating for traffic safety. The THSO works in tandem with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration to implement statewide programs addressing occupant protection, impaired driving, speed enforcement, pedestrian and bicycle safety, and crash data collection and analysis.
