Then we take our matchbox cars, or any vehicle we have, to ride all over town.MY BOOK SHELF
I read a lot of parenting books to keep up to date in the classes I teach. Some of them are worthwhile and some are not. In this space, I’ll only share the books that I absolutely love. If I recommend it here, that means I love it and use it myself. This page containsaffiliate
3 WAYS TO CONNECT WITH YOUR KIDS INDIVIDUALLY You can use a plain journal or pick one that is more geared toward girls or boys.There are journals that are meant for mothers and daughters (there are a lot for mothers and daughters) and some for fathers and daughters.There are quite a few that have sentence starters in it. I like this one that’s meant for 2 people.There’s also this one that is geared toward doing it with a buddy, so not- THRIVING PARENTS
I’m so glad that you’ve clicked on this page so I can tell you more about who I am and what I believe. With so many different types of parenting philosophies these days, I’ve learned that parenting is a lot more about how you want to raise your kids than it is about TEACHING YOUR CHILD TO PART WITH THEIR ARTWORK & SCHOOL When I wrote 4 ways to display your child’s artwork (which really turned into 5), the most popular question I received was “How do I get rid of all the other paper and projects without the kids getting upset or freaking out?” I want to start this post out by saying itwas about 4
SPREAD SOME JOY (#PROJECTJOY) This past winter I rallied our family to do some Random Acts of Kindness (RAKs). We put flowers on cars at the hospital parking lot and we baked chocolate chip cookies sending some in the mail and hand delivering others. Months later, the girls are still talking about their RAKs and have been asking when GLUTEN FREE { OR NOT } OATMEAL One of my favorite breakfasts is oatmeal. I love how it’s warm and leaves me full. The girls, however? They didn’t love it. At least not until I let them put some cinnamon or milk chocolate chips in it. Now, they’d love it if I made it every day. Ingredients: 2 cups ofgluten free
TULLE PUMPKIN WREATH In September Jill from Baby Rabies posted a Facebook status about her Tulle Monster Wreath.. It is the cutest thing I’ve ever seen and I knew I needed to make it for our front door. Meanwhile, I thought it would be such a fun idea for the girls to make one for their bedroomdoors.
COMPLIMENT CIRCLES AKA: HOW TO DISTRACT FROM SIBLING In our house we do compliment circles. They helps us distract from sibling fighting and also help to foster stronger relationships. Here’s what it looks like: 1. We sit in a circle on the floor. This allows everyone to be able to make eye contact. We’re working hard with the girls to make eye contact. * Skip to primary navigation * Skip to main content * Skip to primary sidebar* Skip to footer

3 WAYS TO CONNECT WITH YOUR KIDS INDIVIDUALLY 5 THINGS I DO EVERY DAY TO CONNECT WITH MY KIDS WHAT MOST MOTHERS WON’T TELL YOU THEY WANT FOR MOTHER’S DAY May 4, 2017 By KristinaGrum5 Comments
FIDGET TOYS THAT WON’T DRIVE YOU CRAZY _“Mom, can you take me to Learning Express? There’s something Iwant to get.”_
_“Sure, what is it?”_ _“I can’t explain it. It’s something for your hands. It’s supposed to help with fidgeting.”_ _“Do you know what it looks like?”_ _“Yes, Colin has one.”_ Yes, my child wanted a fidget spinner. This post contains affiliate links. By now you’ve probably seen, or at least heard of, fidget spinners. There are different models like this oneor this one , which
are similar to what our daughter bought that day. I HAVE A FIDGET PROBLEM. I constantly need to move my hands and hold things in them. If you’ve ever seen me teach a class or speak at an event , you are guaranteed to see me with something in my hands. Even when I do a webinaror a Facebook live
event , I have to have somethingin my hands.
As someone who has ADHD, has 2 children with ADHD, and is constantly needing to move my hands, these fidget spinners seemed odd to me. I’ve spent my whole life making my own adaptations and learning ways to be productive. At
first glance, fidget spinners and fidget cubes looked more distracting than anything else. I couldn’t understand how they would help to focus people. Fidgets are good for kids when they’re learning because it helps them use the left and right side of their brains. It’s also good for a child who needs:* repetitive motion
* busy hands
* sensory input
* help with active listening* to calm children
But fidgets are usually quiet. Fidget spinners are new and the only fidget I’ve really seen that makes noise – even if it isn’t necessarily loud. There are a lot of debates right now over whether spinner fidgets should be allowed in the classroom. Teachers are finding them distracting and disturbing other students. The other night Katherine was reading a book while using her fidget spinner. I had started writing this post and was so distracted that I had to ask her to stop. A few days later I was trying to write this post again and Matt was working on his laptop next to me. He was playing with the fidget spinner and again, I was too distracted to finish thispost.
Now that we have 3 in the house I can tell you they don’t help me (or our kids) to focus. They distract the user and the people around. They are tons of fun – even Matt is learning how to dotricks with them!
We’ve always had fidget toys in our house. We’ve used them for homework and one of our girl’s teachers actually has a fidget box in the classroom that we have contributed to. We have over 20 fidgets in our house for almost every part of the body and none of these make noise or distract others. Here’s our list:HAND FIDGETS
Wood Fidget Puzzle
These are my absolute favorite fidget toys. I hold it in my hand and move the cubes all around. I don’t need to look at it, it doesn’t make a sound, and it doesn’t distract anyone else. There’s also this one which looks more fun. But personally, I find the colors more distracting.Fidget Widget

This one is neat too but it can be distracting because you want to see the cool colors move. However, this could be a great calming tool for kids to watch while they work on calming themselves downMonkey Rings

3 WAYS TO CONNECT WITH YOUR KIDS INDIVIDUALLY It’s funny how when the kids are little the days seem to drag on. I remember the days when Kate would do nothing but cry and scream all day and wonder when the heck 6 pm would be coming. I also remember the days that she would roll and play on the floor and I…Read More

WHAT MOST MOTHERS WON’T TELL YOU THEY WANT FOR MOTHER’S DAY This week is when partners all over the country are scrambling to figure out what to get for a Mother’s Day gift. They’ll think about what they can buy and wonder if it should be: a gift for her (i.e., jewelry) a gift for the house (i.e., a blender) a gift for thefamily (i.e.,…
