I HAVE WORTH.
TW: suicide, self-harm, depression For several years I have defined my own worth by someone else's opinion of me; someone else's love for me. After six years of depression, self-loathing and self-harm, I got myself help. I got into therapy and got on medication. But not for myself, for this person. For other people too, LIVING WITH A MENTAL ILLNESS For the most part I try and keep this blog film-related, but if you've been around a while you know it tends to veer in equality and mental health directions now and again, and as May is Mental Health Awareness Month, I really wanted to write something relating to it. The trouble was I didn't know what. SCREENWRITING 101: HOW TO PLAN & WRITE A SOLID CHARACTER The main things to consider is how they react to different situations and people, why they react that way and whether their internal reaction matches their external one. Interaction, reaction; cause and effect – these are the primary bases for screenwriting, and apply to scenes and your characters. PSA: ‘REAL GAMERS’ You constantly find in the gaming world that there are gaming snobs, who hold a sense of authority and are massively pretentiousness. People who consider themselves 'real gamers' and take it upon themselves to inform you that you're not a 'real' gamer - always with an air of condescension. I consider myself a gamer, as LESBIAN FILMS FROM AROUND THE WORLD (PART 1/2) For almost two years I've been building up mini reviews of every film I've ever seen that prominantly features queer women - but for Pride month 2017 I wanted to focus specifically on worldwide representations of LGBTQA+ women. The book tells people that love alone can ‘fix’ someone, that co-dependency is healthy, that extreme jealousy and possession is romantic and it blurs the lines between abuse and romance. 50 Shades of Grey is the fastest-selling novel of all time. And now it’s been adapted into a film, which is ironically being released onValentine’s Day.
TOP TWENTY TEEN & COMING-OF-AGE FILMS First of all, I want to preface this by saying a) pretty much any John Hughes film is a good bet and b) any film with Hilary Duff is also guaranteed to be a great teen film and can basically do no wrong. Secondly, I'd like to say - in defence of some of my choices -MY ULTIMATE 7
So there's this thing going round on the internet, mostly YouTube, about someone's 'ultimate 7' which is basically seven characters they would put together to make the ultimate dream team hero people. The only catch is, there can't be more than one from the same game/show/book series etc. So here's mine! And yes, it is, CHAPEL HILL SHOOTING On February 10th, 2015, three U.S.-born* people (two of which were university students and one graduate) were killed in their home at Chapel Hill, North Carolina. They were a man, his wife and her sister. Killed in cold blood. Oh, I should also mention that they were Muslim. Wait. No, I shouldn't. I fucking shouldn't have to mentionANDROGYNOUS

QUESTIONING WHETHER AUTHORITY IS RIGHT: WHY THE SMALL We need to be open to, and allowed to, question things and we need to be open and allowed to campaign against those things. SCREENWRITING 101: ADVANCED DIALOGUE, SCENE HEADINGS The other day I realised I've had this post in my drafts since about the time I last actually worked on this series - and that's truly shameful! I'm keen to bring back the Screenwriting 101 series as I think it's helpful for both other screenwriters and myself, as it makes me actually think about IDENTITY: DEFINITIONS AND A GUIDE TO. 1. Gender identity – this is what gender you feel; this is normally male, female or genderqueer but there are loads of other genders which are all equally valid. 2. Gender expression – this is how you express your gender, but is does not have to match (for example, I identify as female, but my gender expression is androgyny/androgynous). 3. YOUR TEN-STEP GUIDE TO SURVIVING THE ZOMBIE APOCALYPSE The fact of the matter is that the zombie apocalypse is coming - we all know it, and most of us accept it. And the even harder truth is that we need to ready ourselves. For years there have been movies, TV shows, books but I think a simple checklist will be easier to follow PSA: ‘REAL GAMERS’ You constantly find in the gaming world that there are gaming snobs, who hold a sense of authority and are massively pretentiousness. People who consider themselves 'real gamers' and take it upon themselves to inform you that you're not a 'real' gamer - always with an air of condescension. I consider myself a gamer, as MOVING ON FROM RELATIONSHIPS I recently got out of a three-year-long toxic relationship, and many of my friends have also recently become single, and it's led me to the inevitable question of moving on. How, where, who with and when can you move on? So many people in society have a set time period, and after two weeks, or two CAMPAIGNING FOR FEMINISM AMONG YOUNGER GENERATIONS? So I came home today to see FCKH8's new video in support of feminism floating around Facebook.* It shows kids campaigning for feminism so obviously, I watched it. The video (linked below) is comprised of young girls - looking around 10-14 - swearing avidly and explaining why feminism is important. I have very mixed feelings about thisvideo, and

I consider myself a gamer, as IDENTITY: DEFINITIONS AND A GUIDE TO. 1. Gender identity – this is what gender you feel; this is normally male, female or genderqueer but there are loads of other genders which are all equally valid. 2. Gender expression – this is how you express your gender, but is does not have to match (for example, I identify as female, but my gender expression is androgyny/androgynous). 3. MOVING ON FROM RELATIONSHIPS I recently got out of a three-year-long toxic relationship, and many of my friends have also recently become single, and it's led me to the inevitable question of moving on. How, where, who with and when can you move on? So many people in society have a set time period, and after two weeks, or two QUESTIONING WHETHER AUTHORITY IS RIGHT: WHY THE SMALL We need to be open to, and allowed to, question things and we need to be open and allowed to campaign against those things. So many people see so many injustices and think 'oh but I can't change that' - or they don't even think that, they just subconsciously accept it as unchallengeable. We need CAMPAIGNING FOR FEMINISM AMONG YOUNGER GENERATIONS? So I came home today to see FCKH8's new video in support of feminism floating around Facebook.* It shows kids campaigning for feminism so obviously, I watched it. The video (linked below) is comprised of young girls - looking around 10-14 - swearing avidly and explaining why feminism is important. I have very mixed feelings about thisvideo, and
‘FIGHTING FEMINISM’: SO YOU DON’T BELIEVE IN FEMINISM? I was looking for new blogs to follow, and stumbled across 'fightingfeminism' on Wordpress. My first thought was 'euw', then 'perhaps it's a satirical blog'. But no. This man is literally fighting feminism. And it brought to my attention that as a feminist I try to avoid that kind of negativity, I avoid looking at the'competition';

Chivalry vs. Sexism. One common favourite among anti-feminists is the claim that feminists hate chivalry. Now, first of all, let’s just explain chivalry – chivalry dates back to medieval times, and was basically a code of honour type thing, telling knights how to act. You see that? SCREENWRITING 101: ADVANCED DIALOGUE, SCENE HEADINGS The other day I realised I've had this post in my drafts since about the time I last actually worked on this series - and that's truly shameful! I'm keen to bring back the Screenwriting 101 series as I think it's helpful for both other screenwriters and myself, as it makes me actually think about YOUR WORST PERSONALITY TRAITS… AND WHY THEY’RE ALSO YOUR BEST. So recently someone told me she had feelings for me; and in due course I explained all the reasons why she shouldn't, and rattled off the list of my negative qualities. But later on I realised, there are also upsides to them. Some of my 'worst' qualities are almost simultaneously my best. For example, I 10 MISCONCEPTIONS ABOUT FEMINISM Whenever someone hears the word 'feminist' stereotypes flood their mind, and they assume you're a man-hating, hairy lesbian.
