POST-REFORMATION REFORMED DOGMATICS (VOLUME 3) 08/24/201908/24/2019 ~ Thiago Machado Silva~
Deixe um comentário Muller, Richard A. _Post-Reformation Reformed Dogmatics: The Rise and Development of Reformed Orthodoxy, ca. 1520 to ca. 1725_. Vol. 3: The Divine Essence and Attributes. Grand Rapids: Baker Academic, 2003. The aim of this book report is to provide an overview of the third volume (608 pages) of Richard Muller’s _Post-Reformation Reformed Dogmactics_, where Muller deals with the doctrine of God, particularly the essence and attributes of God.This volume begins with a historical account of the doctrine of God, and Muller writes that in the first two chapters there is “an outline of major development of the doctrine in Reformation and Post-Reformation Reformed theology” (p. 22). No different than volumes one and two, in volume three Muller defends the thesis that the Reformed theology and Post-Reformed theology were aligned with medieval theology. Since Augustine and the church fathers the language of divine essence, the concept of divine simplicity and the attributes of God were known, however, in a non-systematized and organized form. It was Anselm of Canterbury that organized the doctrine of God in a coherent system (p. 34). Issues such as the “proofs” for the existence of God, the knowability of God, divine simplicity, and so on, were common in the Middle Ages (pages 33–82). Deixe um comentário Muller, Richard A. _Post-Reformation Reformed Dogmatics: The Rise and Development of Reformed Orthodoxy, ca. 1520 to ca. 1725_. Volume 2: Holy Scripture : The Cognitive Foundation of Theology. Grand Rapids: Baker Academic, 2003. The aim of this book report is to provide an overview of the second volume (543 pages) of Richard Muller’s _Post-Reformation Reformed Dogmactics_, where Muller deals with the doctrine of the Holy Scripture as the cognitive foundation of theology. Following the same structure of volume 1, the second volume is divided in two parts. Part one has two chapters where he discusses the historical development of the doctrine of Scripture, chapter one begins with the rise of scholasticism to the end of the fifteenth century and chapter two goes from the Reformation to the end of the seventeenth century. Then in part two, the author examines the Doctrine of Scripture within the Reformed Orthodox era, and this second part is divided in five chapters: Scripture as Word of God and Principium; The Divinity of Scripture; Scripture According to Its Properties; The Canon of Scripture and Its Integrity; and The Interpretation of Scripture. Deixe um comentário There is no life without friendship, and since Antiquity, it has been an important theme among scholars and thinkers. Aristotle (384–322 B.C.), for example, wrote on this subject in his _Nicomachean Ethics_. In Book VIII Aristotle introduced the topic of friendship. He divided friendship into three types: first, friendship of utility, which is for the benefit of both parties and lasts as long as the benefit does. Second, friendship based on pleasure, which is for the appreciation and pleasure of both parties and ends when one ceases to please the other. And third, friendship of the good, which is the perfect type of friendship that provides personal growth in virtue.Friendship, for
Aristotle, was of supreme importance and essential to one’s happiness. Continue lendo “Augustine: Converted through Friendship” A DEFINIÇÃO DE “TEOLOGIA” NO CORRER DA HISTÓRIA07/16/2019
