FRIDAY, APRIL 12, 2019 RE-UP FREE - CROYDON 1970Free
Fairfield Halls, Croydon, EnglandSept 13 1970
MP3 320
EX
* Original Notes
The band that plays these 2 shows in September 1970 here has nothingin common
with the one who played in Sunderland in January the same year . "All Right Now" has been a massive hit worldwide and the 4 youngmusicians
(they hardly reach 20 years) have now a new audience full of femaleteenagers
and live a quite strange situation, with their muddy and bleak hardblues for
people waiting to dance to hard rock standards with a pop quality, that neither Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin or Black Sabbath had. Here, theysuspended
some days their studio sessions for the Highway LP, and play inCroydon in
front of an hysteric audience. Songs from these 2 shows gave most ofthe Free
Live LP the following year, and some more songs from this concert wereadded
on the 2002 reissued/remastered version but only on the Songs ofYesterday
boxset was the information if songs were recorded on the 1st or the2nd show
(how were they able to play 2 so intense sets in a row, it's a mysteryfor me)
To compile this fake LP, I chose to include the versions from theboxset
(most of the 2nd show) when there was another version on the Free LiveLP.
It's better to have rarest versions I think. I respected the order ofthe
setlist (and the wrong announces at the end of some songs are surelydue to a
fake addition on the boxset to imitate a true concert since they arenot
listed this way on the setlists I got from various sources, note forexample
that they didn't play "Moonshine" at Croydon and it's announced at theend of
("The Stealer"). Only missing "Songs of Yesterday" and "The Hunter",the
latter closing the concert (sad they didn't put them both in theboxset).
But all in all, it's an absolute gem to listen and listen to again. A precious band for eternity.Download

?--Cassette--Mp3/320k A strong and energetic performance from this harder to find version of Tulls Chicago 1970 FM broadcast concert. Most copies available on the internet today are shorter by almost 20 minutes. This version is complete, adding previously cut tracks such as Dharma for One, We Used to Know, and Improvisations. This recording also captures the moments between the songs, such as tunings, and of course, Ian's always entertaining comments, and quips.
Sadly this is only an mp3 version. The only trace of lineage here isfrom
cassette. The original uploaders notes says he obtained the tape in the mid-eighties. So generation is unknown. The sound is pure, unprocessed to my ear.Subsequent versions of thisalbum
have been cleaned up, with less bass. The sound here is fuller, albeitslightly
"muddy" at times.
The final verdict will, of course, be Up To You.Enjoy!

University of Southampton, Hampshire, EnglandMay 9th 1969
Sound Quality: VG+
Source: Audience
Generation: Master Reel > DAT (48Khz) > WAVE (48Khz)*Original Notes
The owner of the master reels (Lord Snooty) kindly ran off a 48Khz DATof this and the
Leeds 1970 recordings for the specific purpose of sharing the closest source to the master tapes as possible. The DAT was played back on a Tascam A60 MKII DAT deck and digitally fed into ProTools to create these 48Khz/16 bit wave files. For the "purists" out there, these files are currently being presented as raw, untouched audio files, warts and all. MOB will be working on a remastered audio CD version (44.1Khz) calculatingspeed correction,
balancing levels, eliminating digital pops, applying subtle andtasteful EQ
(but NO noise reduction) for HARVESTED. We will share this in the nearfuture, as soon as
MOB's done, so PLEASE DO NOT REMASTER AND REPOST! And PLEASE DO NOT POST THIS ON DIME as I'd like to do so as soon as weget enough seeders

MQR releases this in memory of Rolf Ossenberg, who passed away on17 December, 2012.
This show was the last Rolf worked on in the few days before he left us. Thanks to him and his passionate research over the course of 35 years, research that took him all over the world atgreat
expense to himself in search of master tapes and other Pink Floyd material, this show wasn't lost to time. All those who knew this gentle and nice guy can recognize in this artwork the same style he used in his loony New Year cards. The following notes were written by WRomanus and }{eywood based on the recollections of Rolf, Mike K., Ron C., Duckpont49, creamcheese andWRomanus.
Pepperland resided in San Rafael, CA, USA from September 1970 to the end of January 1972. Prior to that it was known as Euphoria (though only for the summer of 1970) Bermuda Palms, and Lichfield's. Pepperland was a Beatles-themed hall that featured a quadraphonic sound system designed by sound engineer John Meyer, who later built custom PA systems for the Grateful Dead. It was 2 large rooms joined together with a partial wall separatingboth rooms.
This wall was opened up and later removed. The Room had a very low ceiling less than 10 feet high, creating excellent sound. The support girders for the hall’s roof were adorned with painted portholes that mimicked the windows of the Yellow Submarine. Even the sound system blended into the décor, with the speakers molded into huge fiberglass cones in which people would often be found sitting. There was very poor ventilation. Lots of pot and cigarette smoke. No air conditioning. No HVAC. Very cold in winter, too hot the rest of the time. For Pink Floyd's shows there the band needed to use the ballroom floor to accommodate all of their gear, which took up two trucks to transport. PF was set up against the back wall opposite the entrance on a very low riser. The big Glyph horns were set up in the corners and there were Shure vocal columns set up every 20 feet or so along the walls in between. There were slide projectors up in the metal rafters projecting fisheye photos of farm animals into the painted portholes on the walls in reference to the Atom Heart Mother cover. A few steps up at the back of the performance space was another space with a trippy sculpture in the center, a female hand holding up a glowing sphere surrounded by "angel hair" and all under a plex dome. There were no more than 500 people present, sitting on the floor in the center, with some folks sitting up inside the big Glyph bottomhorns.
Pink Floyd were on tour promoting their new album, Atom Heart Mother, which had just been released a few days before. They played there two nights, the 16th and 17th, returning to California for the fourth time in their career. As with everytime they came to CA they felt at their best and their performance was really hot. This time, though, was the first time they didn't play Interstellar Overdrive, an omission not lost to the Californian fans who considered it a certainty. That first night there were many problems with the power. The club's system was unable to deal with the multichannel sound system the Floyd brought, and several power outages marred the performance of Astronomy Domine. Three more small outages occurred during the crescendo of A Saucerful of Secrets, but this time the band forged on and finished the song in spite of them, much to the fans' delight. The show was originally recorded by Jay D. and Ron C. with a Sony TC-126 with Powered Single Point Stereo Microphone, using either Sony Red or Green cassette tapes. They sat 10-12 rows back, left of center. When the boys got back home, they instantly made two copies onto Scotch 7" Reel, one for Jay and one for Ron C. The Master Cassettes were re-used for next day's Jethro Tull show inBerkeley.
They were usually never kept, due to the unreliability of cassette transport mechanisms at the time. Thanks to this recording the show was soon famous amongst the fan trader circles and many bootlegs were released with at least some of these songs, especially the four attempts at Astronomy Domine. Jay D. never traded this item so all copies around came from Ron C.'s reel copy which went rotten in the early 90's. Rolf Ossenberg managed to get the Jay D. 1st gen reel copy which would no longer play back at all. With the invaluable help of Mike K., the reel was baked in June 2011 (the morning after Roger Waters' show in Düsseldorf) and transferred from Revox A77 into Tascam US-200 to a 96KHz/24bit file. Rolf was really nervous about baking the Scotch tape. The issue is that the binder used was incorrectly made so it absorbsmoisture.
This is
believed to be a
problem with all
old Scotch/Ampex
reels.
This moisture interferes with the adhesive so during playback you get lots of sticky gunk (yes, that is the technical term for it) collecting on the playback head and it impacts playback quality andeven speed.
So you have to fix it. Rolf had bought a well-controlled oven specifically for this purpose. They baked at 53C to 55C for 3-4 hours to drive the moisture out without damaging the plastic backing, let cool down to room temp, and voila' ... The tape plays back with no problems for a month or so. Rolf gave that to creamcheese for cutting and some "basic treatment", as we used to call it. A 50 Hz hum that probably appeared with the transferring process was taken away very carefully. A little EQ was done to give the recording a bit more body. Rolf approved it that way. He furtherly agreed to MQR making a remastered release from this but it was his wish to release that (almost) raw one himself first. Unfortunately we were in November 2012 and Rolf's time has come. Creamcheese released the transfer as Grolsch's Baked Pepperland Reel a few days after Rolf (Grolsch) passed away. This remaster uses that same transfer. The 50 Hz de-humming was redone with iRX2. The recording was then EQ'ed and a 1st run of Noise Reduction was done with iRX2.A 2nd
Noise Reduction run was applied later. Some kind of noise "poppingup"
around sharp transients is audible throughout the show. A hiss thatonly
appears in conjunction with an audible sound; when there's no soundthere's no hiss.
This was particularly noticeable during the spoken intros. For this reason the whole project was restarted from scratch.Although
the result of the 2nd attempt is way better sounding, we were not ableto
remove that popping noise entirely. As it appeared independently of the NR settings, we suspect it to have been in the source material but buriedin the hiss.
After that WRomanus manually removed clicks, pops, shits and some coughs for a more pleasant listening with iRX2. The final master was then done by creamcheese applying another slight EQ, balancing the stereo image incollaboration
with WRomanus and removing some phase issues on the bass range ofthe recording.
A little pressure was added applying very gentle multibandcompression.
}{eywood manually adjusted the volume of a few parts to be more dynamic and better represent the way thesongs
sounded live, countering the level compression of the original analog gear, and then made an optimized 16/44.1 Master for CD playback of this very dynamic recording. The main artwork is made with two of the pics WRomanus took of Rolf talking about this show with Ron C., one of the tapers, during ameeting of
floydian fans in Rome.WRomanus conceived
this artwork with Rolf's loony New Years cards in mind... Some of which you can seein the booklet.

More Infos from Collectors Music Reviews At The Stadium 1973 is the second Pink Floyd release on the general Screamer label and is sourced from the master tape recently posted online. Their spring tour was played in theaters, but this tape captures the band right at the beginning of their arena rock era after Dark Side Of The Moon hit number one.The tape is very good for its age. The instruments and fans around the mic are nice and clear. The only negatives are the “thinness” and upper register distortion that occurs in loud parts. It sounds exactly like the tape for Led Zeppelin’s May 5th concert at the same venue and pressed on Pigeon Blood on the Flagge label. The same taper did it so the quality is identical. In fact there is some controversy surrounding who actually made these tapes, but that is not important here. Just like with the Zeppelin show, the comments are clearly audible throughout this one too like before “Careful With That Axe Eugene” he says to some girl: “It’s like that thing off The Dark Side of the Moon. ‘The lunatic is in my head…’ You don’t like ‘em, do you? …huh. That’s ’cause you’re not stoned. You’re afool.”
The comments only occur between tracks thus not interfering with the music at all, and the audience is very demonstrative like at the scream in “Eugene”. The concert itself is amazing and is essential to own. The “Obscured By Clouds/When You’re In” is one of the best openings for a concert with the pastoral electronic drone followed by the band crashing in with some of their heaviest riffs. “Set The Controls” is another stand out track being one of the best versions of the piece I’ve heard. It has an almost “Welcome To The Machine” quality in some of the keyboard passages in the middle. The Dark Side suite is performed perfectly as is ”Echoes”. The beginning, end and part of the guitar solo are still cut on thistape however.
Screamer claim they didn’t remaster the tape but left it untouched. That’s a plus since I think that would have ruined this recording, great as it is.This label has released many impressive titles this year and I never hesitate to pick up anything they put out. The packaging is a bit bland with two well-known photos and a picture of pyramids on the back. The cover picture of Roger standing in front of the gong has seen alot of circulation
recently, also appearing in Sirene’s Damn Braces: Bless Relaxes andBoston 1973.
Packaging isn’t their strong suite but presenting excellent sounding titles is and this is a title worth having.MD5 & Artwork incl.

RE-UP - PINK FLOYD - SYCOPATED PANDEMONIUM 1967/1968Pink Floyd

CD Bootleg "Sycopated Pandemonium" > EAC > FLAC level 5 Setlist + Original Comments:(DISC 1)
1968.05.23 (early set) Paradiso, Amsterdam - low gen source 01 - tuneups 01:14:69 02 - Let There Be More Light 07:26:13 03 - Interstellar Overdrive 11:14:58 04 - Set The Controls For The Heart Of The Sun 12:27:62 05 - tuneups 00:52:07 06 - A Saucerful Of Secrets 14:09:12 "1966 Syd Home Demo" 07 - Interstellar Overdrive 06:21:34 notes: Unfortunately, this puppy is reputed--by some very "higher ups" in the Syd collectors food chain--to be a fake. :( 1968.06.25 Picadilly Studios, London - BBC appearance 08 - Massed Gadgets Of Hercules (early Saucerful) 06:40:69 notes: BBC appearance, early performence of Saucerful. Not sure why the name is as it is, since they were calling it Saucerful the month before...but whatever. Nice source. 1967.01.20 Mike Leonard's house, North London 09 - Lets Roll Another One 03:02:61 notes; Often said to be from "66/10/31", that is not true. Recorded by Irene Winsby, during a rehearsal at Mr. Leonard's house. This new information comes from very knowledgable Syd collectors, and is finally correct. It's almost certain that no recordings circulate from that 66/10/31 private recording session!! As interesting as the recording is, it is unfortunately borderline atrocious. If there even were any, lyrics are unintelligible. 1967 - studio sessions 10 - Candy And A Currant Bun - drug lyrics 01:58:00 11 - Candy And A Currant Bun - clean lyrics 02:42:72 notes: Two studio versions of this b-side, one with the drug lyrics, one with wholesome clean lyrics that your grandma would allow... :) The drug lyrics version wasn't officially released (no way would the "higher ups" allow that sort...), and is said to be sourced from a studio acetate. Kudos to that fine fellow who leaked it. They both apparantly cull from the same instrumental backing track, with the first version edited a bit. I won't comment on the recording dates.(DISC 2)
1968.05.23 (late set) Paradiso, Amsterdam - low gen source 01 - tuneups 00:34:24 02 - Keep Smiling People 10:09:00 03 - tuneups 01:04:19 04 - Let There Be More Light 08:04:58 05 - tuneups 01:14:11 06 - Set The Controls For The Heart Of The Sun 12:34:59 07 - tuneups 00:51:30 08 - Flaming 04:59:26 09 - tuneups 00:45:49 10 - A Saucerful Of Secrets 12:41:59 notes: the complete late show from this date. Keep Smiling People is an unrecorded instrumental that has some similarities with 'Careful With That Axe, Eugene'. Accolades of this are not limited to: early performence of Saucerful (possibly the 2nd time ever played live), and two fairly rare songs in live form. Another of my favorite shows, and also a nice recording considering the shoddy equipment available inthose days.
1968.06.25 Picadilly Studios, London 11 - Murderistic Woman 02:20:43 notes: another early variation of what would become 'Careful With ThatAxe, Eugene'.
1968.12.28 Margriethal Jaarburs, Utrecht 12 - Careful With That Axe, Eugene 08:00:39 notes: Apparantly the first circulating recording of 'Careful With That Axe, Eugene' as most of us know it. 1969.04.14 Royal Festival Hall, London 13 - Beset By Creatures Of The Deep 08:26:16 notes: Live variation of Axe, as was part of the Man&Journey suites. What is this?
14 - bonus track. some will recognize it immediately. for the sake of keeping up the illusion of this being a decent surprise, please don't mention what this is to the list(s).Band:

RE-UP PINK FLOYD THE OXFAM CONCERT 1972Pink Floyd
'The Oxfam Concert'
Wembley Empire Pool, LondonOctober 21st 1972
The Godfatherecords GR 361/362 **Notes with Silver CD** Pink Floyd spent the majority of 1972 developing "The Dark Side Of The Moon" suite, which would ultimately become one of the highest selling albums of all time worldwide, and a benchmark for audiophiles even to this day. After extensive touring in England, Europe, Japan and the United States throughout the year, the epic gradually evolved into the monument that now belongs in the collection of every self-respecting music aficionado, bar none. Though it is far more grounded compared to the deep space flights of Floyd's prior efforts, addressing the universal fears and pressures of every man - war, death, madness, time - musically, it is a logical progression from "Atom Heart Mother" and "Echoes" - both side-long masterworks in their ownright.
That being said, it is also a departure musically in tha there was a much stronger emphasis on memorable melodies and a variety of moods within the framework of several compact songs, which when played together, formed an entirely different entity. The earliest versions of the suite featured segments that differ greatly from the final result, and it is fascinating to hear how it developed into the magnum opus that it did via rare recordings such as this. Contained within is the silver debut of Pink Floyd's performance from "A Benefit Of War On Want and Oxfam" at Empire Pool, Wembley on October 21st, 1972 - the band's sole concert of that month. By this time, "The Dark Side Of The Moon" had developed significantly compared to the earliest performances in the UK during January of 1972, and this rare document provides yet another glimpse into its evolution. The 2nd set includes several other important pieces from the Floyd reportoire such as "Careful With That Axe, Eugene", "Echoes" and "Set The Controls For The Heart Of The Sun", giving the audience some familiar things to latch on to. Perhaps it is Sound's magazines review of the conert that best sums up this release: "From the word go, they gave rhe packed stadium a faultless demonstration of what psychedelic music is all about. There wasn't a note, or a sound, out of place during th whole evening...". Thus, it is with great pride that we present to you, the listener, with yet another important and overlooked gem from the Floydconcert canon!

This defect was edited out and the discs were reburned. I decided to archive the whole thing. I did DAE with EAC in secure mode on a PlexWriter 12/10/32 and shn'ed with mkwACT. "This CD is preferable to Meddlee because that CD has gaps and has the setlist in the wrong order. This one also has the complete show (hence the name!) unlike Obscurity."DISC ONE

3. Set The Controls For The Heart Of The Sun 4. Atom Heart MotherDISC TWO
1. Careful With That Axe, Eugene2. Cymbaline
3. Echoes
4. Blues
Comment #1:
Mostly from 3rd generation tape (parts of the 2nd set are from higher generation). The last performance of 'The Embryo', 'Fat Old Sun' and 'Cymbaline'. Extremely long version of 'The Embryo' which includes an extended guitar jam similar to 'Breathe'. Some noise reduction isapparent.
Comment #2:
This CD contains the complete 'Echoes' and 'Blues' that are not available on Obscurity (2CD, Sugarcane Records SC 52005/6), in addition to the longest version (26min) of 'The Embryo'. The 3rd gen. tape is used for most of this release, and the rest is unknown gen tape (that is, it is made of two tapes). This version is superior to 'Obscurity (2CD)'. 20-bit digital remastering.Download

RE-UP PINK FLOYD ECHOES FROM THE PAST LIVE 1975 *from original notes*Pink Floyd
Title - "Echoes From The Past (Platinum Edition)" Label - Digital Reproductions DR 42675-4 There are many Pink Floyd RoIOs out there. Most of them are audiencerecordings
and pretty difficult to listen to. This one, however, has to be thebest audience
recording of an old Floyd show ever. This rivals the Boston Gardenshow for quality,
IMHO. If your a Floyd fan, don't miss this one!Disc 1:

The Digital Dan Review: An incredible audience show from the Sports Arena in Los Angeles,California
on April 26, 1975. This is the complete master tape source, socomplete that
you here the taper testing the mics as the show starts. The sound isnothing
short of astounding. Incredibly clear and quite devoid of almost anyfan noise.
The bass is well captured, deep and powerful with no distortionwhatsoever. The
highs are also very crisp and not the least bit of harshness. In otherwords,
the mix is just about perfect as if it were a soundboard. I think Ihave a good
idea who taped this show and it explains a lot. There are a few thingsthat make
this recording truly unique. First, the pre-release versions ofSheep (Raving
and Drooling) and Dogs (You Gotta Be Crazy). Raving and Drooling ismuch
different instrumentally during the jam sections than is the albumversion,
including some rhythm guitar that sounds like disco-funk! The lyricsto You
Gotta Be Crazy are quite different from the album version of Dogs.Even Roger
calls it a rather "mean" song. "Any Colour You Like" is the greatjam version
and this is the last tour with performances of "Echoes" in itsentirety. All
and all this recording is absolutely amazing for its age and one thatyou will
definitely want in your collection.Download
