Having the right supplies for online teaching can ease the stress of distance teaching. FUN WORD FAMILY ACTIVITIES Teaching word families is a great way to boost confidence in young readers. Here are some fun word family activities for the classroom. BUBBLE TAGS FOR THE END OF THE YEAR I wanted the tag to say, “You blew us away this year.”. So, I made my own tag for our bubble wands. You could also attach them to regular bubble bottles. I usually get my bubble wands at Michael’s because I can use my teacher discount on them! You can grab this freebie below. Hello there! How is your weekend going? Hopefully you have a long weekend. I wanted to share this bird beak activity we did earlier in the week. We are learning about adaptations and this was a great way to show how birds adapt with their beak types. The kids loved it. USING YOUR 5 SENSES TO EXPLORE POPCORN Five Senses Popcorn. There are a couple of ways you can go about providing popcorn to your students. You can use microwave bags or individual bags of popcorn for your students to taste, feel, smell, touch, and observe. One thing that I love to do is bring in an air popper and let students observe the kernels turn into fluffy, whitepopcorn.

Phonological awareness is very broad. It includes being able to recognize and manipulate the parts of oral language. Try to think of phonological awareness as a cookie, and the rhyming, syllables, phonemic awareness, etc as the chocolate chips in the cookie. You need all of them to make a good cookie (a.k.a reader). THE GOOD EGG {A BOOK TALK} The book starts out with The Good Egg, who lives with 11 other eggs (The Bad Eggs) in a carton. He soon becomes annoyed with the other eggs because they are not as good as he is. The Good Egg follows all of the rules and makes it a point to be sure others follow the rules. Soon the Good Egg becomes annoyed with his friends and leaves thecarton.
POPCORN DRAGON {A BOOK TALK} The Popcorn Dragon. The Popcorn Dragon by Jane Thayer is about a dragon named Dexter who discovers that he can blow smoke. He is excited to show his friends his new discovery but goes a little too far. He teases his friends with the fact that they cannot do the same trick. SETTING UP A WRITING FOLDER After prepping the labels, we are ready to put together our folders. First, we give them a label and we learn where to place the labels. Next, we learn how to work the prongs and place a couple of word lists into our folder. We always start out with a family words, school words and feeling words. More word lists are added as the year progresses. POPCORN ADDITION AND SUBTRACTION SCOOT Popcorn Scoot. Popcorn scoot is a math activity that reinforces addition and subtraction facts.
