This time around they're encouraging riders to make the most of the longest days of the year over the Summer Solstice weekend of the 19th and 20th of June. The challenge this year is to ride one 100 mile ride on either day. The ride can be outdoors, indoors, on any terrain, and on any bike, so go nuts! RAPHA’S SNOW PEAK COLLECTION In the outdoor space, few companies provide products as resilient as they are good-lookin' as Snow Peak. Their titanium cookware lasts forever and their compact camping solutions have proven to be excellent allies on bicycle tours so it makes sense that Rapha would pair up with Snow Peak on a capsule collection, live now at their site. At the last minute, our coverage team decided to pull the plug, and we didn’t get a whole lot from the weekend, but luckily Jared Harber was able to shoot MattAcker ‘s winning

I really wanted to share not only Jared’s amazing photos but Matt’s thoughtful insight into his build, which he rolled into 8th position, so read on below._21 Discussion

THE RADAVIST IS RELOCATING TO SANTA FE There’s a lot going on in the world right now with the Covid-19 pandemic, which has upended many people’s lives. Unfortunately, this falls right in the middle of our relocation to Santa Fe, New Mexico. Yet, I can’t complain because people are dying from this virus. Our minor inconvenience is nothing compared to that. It’s obvious that California has been a great host state for our operations over the past five years but I’ve been feeling the draw to move out of the Golden State for some time now, for various reasons, both related to the content of this website and my ownpersonal sanity.
Our move to Santa Fe mostly stems from the fact that recently I’ve found myself gravitating toward smaller-towns, rather than big cities. Cari, my partner, who plays a huge role in the admin side of this site, has family ties to New Mexico. We both wanted to live somewhere at a higher elevation, with easier access to the activities we love and a greatly reduced population. Our road trip through Santa Fe last summer, plus various trips over the years solidified our decision. Los Angeles’ riding is unparalleled when compared to other major US-cities and hopefully, we’ve shown that over the years. You can’t get much better than the Santa Monica, Verdugo, and San Gabriel mountains, our three major ranges in the area. There are hundreds of miles of easily-accessible dirt roads, singletrack, and doubletrack in the area and it’s been a great community to be a partof.
That said, I personally just get inundated with the constant hustle. Over the years, it’s just gotten to me. Everyone is always moving at 110% and both Cari and I are looking for a calmer environment to live in. What I’m personally looking forward to is documenting the cyclists in Santa Fe, working with the local organizations, and being in the Four Corners. I’ll miss the Sierra, the Mojave, and everything in between, but I look forward to all the Southwest has tooffer.
We’re moving as soon as we can, which will probably happen in the next week or so. During this process, WE’LL BE CLOSING DOWN WEBSHOP SHIPPING but continuing the site’s day-to-day content schedule. Please, during this crazy time, be safe out there! If you’re in the Santa Fe area, be sure to holler, I look forward to riding bikes with you all.68 Discussion

CINELLI’S KING ZYDECO FRAMESET CLEARS A 2.1″ TIRE AND FEATURES ADUAL RAKE FORK
Over the years, Cinelli has addressed trends within the cycling industry and their latest is the King Zydeco frameset, an update to the original Zydeco which was launched a decade ago. A lot has changed in ten years. Back then ‘cross bikes were “gravel” bikes and disc brakes on drop bar bikes were still working out all the kinks. The King Zydeco has tire clearance on-par with other offerings in the field. The frameset’s double dropped chainstays allow for a 700 x 40mm or 27.5 x 2.1″ tire. There’s also a double rake feature, thanks to the Columbus Futura fork and with a claimed frame+fork weight coming in around 1550 grams, the Zydeco is designed to be a race-ready machine. With all these features, you can build this up to suit your specific needs. The above photo of the complete bike is only for reference. ;-) Check out more at Cinelli’s USA website.

WHISKY PARTS CO. NO.9 MONSTER CROSS MCX FORK Whisky’s latest fork is their No.9 MCX “monster cross” fork which brings extra-wide tires, 700c x 51 mm or 650b x 61 mm (that’s 2.4”), to your corresponding frame. So how is this different than a MTB fork? Well, the MCX has a 415 mm axle-to-crown, minimizing the geometry effects. It’s also got 51 mm of offset, improving toe clearance with large tires or fenders. The MCX is within the Whisky CX fork family, with a 12 mm thru axle, and flat-mount brakes. There are also three-Pack mounts, dynamo cable routing, and fender mounts (700c x 45 mm tire clearance with fender) which add versatility for bikepacking and gravel riders.MSRP $520.00

REPORTAGE BY: FRANCESCO D'ALESSIOTHE WOODPACKERS
Recently, we got back on an old trail that we used to ride, especially during lunch breaks. We used this trail to train in view of a multi-day bikepacking trip. Over the years, wind and snow have broken and even uprooted many trees, resulting in an unpassable section of singletrack that crosses the coniferous forest. So we decided to clear the passages obstructed by the trees. That’s when we noticed that on some of these trees there were bird nests. From time to time, the characteristic noise of the woodpecker at work could be heard in the distance. At that precise moment, the idea was born to “recycle” some sections of these conifers and create birdhouses with them, letting the rest of the logs follow its natural cycle as humus.8 Discussion

SALSA’S NEW GRAVEL SINGLESPEED BIKE: THE STORMCHASER Available in April and launched today at the Mid South, theStormchaser
is Salsa’s new singlespeed gravel bike. This new bike is available at the moment only as an aluminum frame, with a carbon fork, and is inspired by the Warbird’s all-road, all-conditions, no-nonsensegeometry.
Because gravel races often take place in inclement conditions, Salsa added abrasion plates on the fork, internal routing, and extra clearance for when the mud really gets caked on. The all-new Alternator Flat Mount dropouts allow for single speed setups or 1x drivetrains with a geared dropout plate. This geometry is adapted so that wider bars can be run with it as well. Complete builds are priced at $1,499 with the frameset coming in at $1,099. See more information at Salsa.

REPORTAGE BY: ERIN LAMB & JOHN WATSON HARMON CANYON: TURNING OUR HILLSIDES INTO TRAILS, NOT PUTTING THEMINTO BARRELS
Ventura is one of the last remaining quaint little beach towns in Southern California that is known for its surf. I know I’ve said this about Santa Barbara before,
but compared to Ventura, the city just north has seasonal waves at best due to the Islands that block South tropical swells from barreling into its beaches. Plus, some go as far as saying that the Santa Barbara county line was, in a way, gerrymandered to include Rincon, the only break that really puts it on the radar. This is a tangent, but who cares, right? I know this is the Radavist, and we’re typically mountain people. Hang in there. The mountains are coming. Ventura has its unique point break right off the California St exit and next to the fairgrounds where I’d go to watch the Van’s Warped Tour as a kid in the 90’s. This point break is known as C-Street. I would argue rivals Rincon at certain swell angles, with its many take-off points that lead into a long, smooth yet punctuated ride requiring you to navigate sectioning walls through a sea of people and of the literal sea, making your way down the beach.6 Discussion
