By Elloa Atkinson. I am a descendent in a lineage of shame. I grew up in a house and a body filled with shame of various colours and flavours, from mild blush pink to angry blood red. The generations who came before me passed the shame along from parent to child, wrapped carefully in the folds of pivotal childhood memories like it was aMAN-FESTING!
The theme of class this week is kindness. I told my students the story and gave them each a bracelet to remind them of 3 things. 1.) To not take life so seriously. 2.) As a reminder to be kind and hopefully to buy the cup of coffee for the person in line behind you at DEAR JACOB: AN OPEN LETTER TO MY 15 YEAR OLD SON Dear Jacob, So many beautiful thoughts come to my mind that make me smile when I think of you. It makes my heart want to bust open. From singing “You Are My Sunshine” to you countless times as an infant, to how I say you taught me how to be a mom, to how you seem to be such an old soul, to how you always seem to want to be there for people WHEN YOUR 79 YEAR OLD MOTHER IS RAPED Over the past month, we've come to learn a few things, and are quickly realizing that the best way to heal, is to help others in need. My mom had a crash course in injustice the past month, and through her experience, she is wanting to make a difference. WAYNE DYER'S DAUGHTER REFLECTS ON BEING RAISED BY Sep 19 Princeton! Sep 20th NYC. The book is also forthcoming from Jen Pastiloff. Ages 13 and up. (NYC is 16 and up due to studio policy.) I have blocked most of my school years out. Lately I have been thinking about those years for my book and I realize that I actually did not like school.
