TUITELE AND THE LOBOS PREPARE FOR NOTRE DAME EXPERIENCEISABEL GONZALEZ
@CISABELG
The odds are not in New Mexico’s favor as the Lobos head to South Bend, Indiana this weekend, but the second game of the 2018 season should provide a lot of experience and insight to a team that head coach Bob Davie described as one of the youngest ones he’s had. While this is the first time ever the two schools face each other, Notre Dame is a school that Davie is quite familiar with. He was the interim head coach for a couple games there in 1995. Davie eventually went from defensive coordinator to full-time head coachin
1997 (after Lou Holtz stepped down) staying with the Irish until 2001. However, Davie won’t be making the trip as he continues to recover from a medical condition. Offensive line coach Saga Tuitele will be leading the Lobos as the acting head coach this weekend. “We can’t be over our heads on anything… we can’t be too much in awe,” said Tuitele when he talked about playing against a high profile school. UPDATE ON BOB DAVIE
New Mexico football head coach Bob Davie was taken to the hospital immediately after the Lobos’ season opener on Saturday. The officialstatement
released by Athletic Director Eddie Nuñez said it appeared to be a “serious medical incident.” Fortunately, on Sept. 1, the school released a statement from Davie thanking everyone for their support and that he anticipates a full recovery. The coach was able to meet with the team on Thursday Sept. 5, proving he was already doing better. However, Davie also made it clear that he is not going to push himself too much too soon. LOBOS DEFEAT SAM HOUSTON ST 39-31 IN SEASON OPENER A long, four hour game of endurance was played out at Dreamstyle Stadium where the Lobos outlasted Sam Houston State in a drama of five acts. It was not the prettiest football I have ever seen, but in reality is was an exciting game that went down to the last 90 seconds. ACT I: The Lobos dominate the first 15:03 to take a 16-0 lead. Brandt goes starts at quarterback and produces 140 yards in the air. Not a very efficient completion percentage as he is 7 for 17, but most the balls he throws wend down field, averaging 20 yards per catch. The Lobos use big plays by Ahmari Davis (a 43 yard TD run and a 51 yard reception) to control the field position and the score. They outscore the Bearkats and outgain them by 130 yards. The Lobo defense clogs up the run, holding Sam Houston to 8 rushing yards on 8 attempts. It looks like the Lobos might have Continue reading “Lobos Defeat Sam Houston St 39-31 In Season Opener” → 08/27/201908/27/2019Isabel Gonzalez
