I keep a knife block on the counter (no, I wouldn’t do this on a monohull even at anchor; underway this gets laid down on our bed with a blanket around it so that knives can’t fall to the floor). Regardless of whether the item needs a ventilated bin, solid bottoms are a real must, for several reasons: Openings in the bottom will bruise produce and can tear open bags and other containers with the motion of the boat; BEST NON-SKID BOAT DECK CLEANER Dave spent hours scrubbing on his hands and knees and became convinced that there HAD to be an easier way. Over the first two years that we owned Barefoot Gal, we tried a lot of products – both those designed for boats and a number of non-marine cleaners. While at first glance it may seem to be a simple system, it is perhaps the most complex and misunderstoodcomponent.
RENEWING CHALKY GELCOAT A few weeks ago, I wrote about the easiest way I’d found to clean non-skid decks. And I said something about our gelcoat being really chalky in general (it’s a common problem in older Gemini catamarans . . . well, in older fiberglass boats in general). I previously talked about holding tanks and what size is reasonable for actually living on a boat.. One way to get away from a holding tank is a composting toilet. A few years ago, a boat with a compostinghead was a rarity.
HOW TO STORE POTATOES the reality is that the potatoes you buy in the store are already green and packed in plastic so you really see it when you get them home, the continent who brought the potato to Europe does have the most disgusting potatoes lol, in the 20 yeas I am here now I can not find one good golden salad potato – that is shameful because i want to make my good golden potato salad RECIPES | THE BOAT GALLEY Low-Carb/Keto Chili. MAKING A HURRICANE PLAN FOR YOUR INSURER You need to double your lines and add chafe guards before the hurricane arrives. You can determine the appropriate diameter and number of lines based on the size of your boat. For example, one company recommends: Boats 31-45 feet use 12 lines at a minimum of 5/8 inch diameter. Boats 45-60 feet use 16 lines at a minimum of 3/4 inchline.

HOW TO MAKE LAZY JACKS EASY TO USE To raise the main, you release each lazy jack where it’s cleated on the mast, pull the two lines that are attached to the boom forward, and hook them on the reef hooks or the cleats that the lazy jacks are on. Then tighten up the lazy jack lines. The lazy jacks now form a reverse “L” going along the boom and up the mast. OUTBOARD FUEL LINE PROBLEMS A blocked outboard fuel line prevents fuel from getting to the motor. It generally starts with a partial blockage, where playing around with the fuel hose and pumping the primer bulb will get the motor to start or keep it running. But blockages don’t cure themselves. CHOOSING THE RIGHT WATER FILTER Water filters—called “cartridges” by manufacturers—have 3 basic differences from one to another: Size. Obviously, you need the right size to fit your housing. The standard size used in most housings is called 10″ by 2-1/2″ diameter. Note that althoughit’s
BOAT INSURANCE: HULL VALUES AND PREMIUMS Many factors go into calculating your premium. On average, premiums are a percentage of your hull amount. They average from 1% – 3% normally. And here in Boot Key Harbor (Marathon, FL) the marina staff is emphatic about teaching the right way to tie up to one!. What seems to be the obvious way to tie up is to secure one of your dock lines to the forward cleat on one side of the boat, pass the line through the eye, and then cleat it to the forward cleat on the other BEST NON-SKID BOAT DECK CLEANER How to Use Non-Skid Boat Deck Cleaner. You wet the deck down, pour a little of the cleaner on and spread it around with a deck brush (you don’t have to scrub with the deck brush; just spread the water and cleaner suds to cover the area). Wait 2 or 3 minutes while the cleaner does it stuff. Go over the area again with the deck brush to loosen UNBREAKABLE BOAT DISHES The two big advantages of melamine for boat dishes are its light weight and bright colors and patterns. It’s available in both solid colors and all sorts of patterns. Melamine does not claim to be totally “unbreakable” but rather that it is “far more durable than china and stoneware.”. I’ve never had melamine break in thelimited
