There are 127 national parks in Thailand, of them 22 marine national parks. KHAO SOK NATIONAL PARK Phuket (~160 km), Krabi (~150 km), Ko Samui (~220 km) The relatively convenient distance to Koh Samui, Phuket, Krabi and Khao Lak makes this park the most popular national park in South Thailand. The park is best known for it's lush forests and rafthouses on Chew Lan Lake. There are many nice trails spread all over the park giving opportunity to see some animals. KHAO YAI NATIONAL PARK Bangkok (~180 km), Ayutthaya (~120 km), Saraburi (~65 km) The third largest and the most popular national park in Thailand, listed as world heritage site in 2005. Khao Yai has it all; series of trails for hiking, total 35-40 km long, impressive waterfalls, impressive wildlife. Relatively easy to see deer species, elephants, hornbills, gibbons, macaques, porcupines, civets. KUI BURI NATIONAL PARK Hua Hin (~85 km), Bangkok (~280 km), Kanchanaburi (~280 km) Situated right south of Kaeng Krachan National Park and 88 km from Hua Hin, the elephant sighting in this national park is almost 100% in any given day of the year. Other common animals are gaur, deer and jackals. Lucky visitors may even see the very rare bantengs which are a critically endengered species of cattle. DOI INTHANON NATIONAL PARK Chiang Mai (~100 km), Chiang Rai (~280 km), Pai (~220 km) Home to the highest mountain in Thailand, one of the best national parks in north Thailand. The park is popular for it's waterfalls, viewpoints, trails and birds. Due to montane forests and high altitude the park has cool temperatures all year round. The summit area has picturesque mossy forests, always humid. KAENG KRACHAN NATIONAL PARK Hua Hin (~85 km), Bangkok (~200 km), Kanchanaburi (~195 km) The largest national park in Thailand. It is one of the best destination for birders and other wildlife enthusiast, no doubt one of the most diverse wildlife areas in the country. What makes Kaeng Krachan among the best is that it still has relatively low visits fromthe tourists.
ERAWAN NATIONAL PARK Kanchanaburi (~70 km), Bangkok (~200 km), Ayutthaya (~220 km) The most popular waterfall in Thailand among foreign tourists, with two easily accessible lower tiers and 5 other easy to moderately accessible upper tiers. The crystal clear waters of the falls during the cooler and hot seasons suitable for swimming. TARUTAO NATIONAL MARINE PARK Satun (~60 km), Trang (~100 km), Krabi (~230 km) A group of 51 islands spread over three archipelagos. Several campsites and number of bungalows make it possible to stay at the island which has a nice secondary forest full of wildlife. The main island is not populated, no vehicles/motorcycles allowed on the entireisland.
