I re-scripted the story while we were filming. We shot secretly on the subway and finally snuck up onto the roof of an office building at sunrise the next morning before our equipment was due to be returned. I was still downloading the footage onto my hard drives in the elevator up to the camera rental house!

Phew indeed.

The location turned out to be an ugly, run-down barn, so we had to improvise very quickly and used the gorgeous light and scenery to create pretty images instead. On top of that I had dresses, shoes, flowers, gorgeous images and light - not to mention lots of laughter and fun! More commercials like these, please!

We shot this film in Mallorca, Spain in the scorching summer heat. Of course there was a heat wave on the day of the shoot, and a crew of over 50 had to endure temperatures above 35 degrees Celcius. Not for the faint-hearted! The visual FX were a great challenge to pre-visualise and needed to be cheated in all sorts of clever ways for us to achieve the desired effect.

The first and only film I've shot on 35 mm film! We shot this commercial on a tram going around Bellevue, one of the busiest areas in Zurich. Due to the direction of the light and where the actors were positioned, we planned our shoot so that I could flip all the images in post and match our characters' eyelines. Yet another classic film challenge - but it worked in the end, which made me happy!

Focusing on stories for and about women, Alexandra directs commercials, shorts, and documentaries. With a strong cinematic eye, she is a visual storyteller who frequently blurs the lines between cinema and documentary. Her background in theater has made her an actor’s director who elicits powerful, human performances in emotionally charged films.

Alexandra’s films have screened at 40+ festivals around the world. With a strong feminine sensibility and affection for the human condition, her work has won numerous awards, including an honorable mention from the DGA, a Gold EDI, and several advertising awards at Cannes, Intercom Chicago International Film Festival, and New York

Festivals.

With a keen eye for fashion and beauty, Alexandra has directed 50+ commercials for brands like PriceWaterhouseCoopers, Excedrin, GSK, Medela, and Swiss Life. Inspired by her international heritage, she has directed, written, and produced dozens of documentaries for CNN’s Great Big Story which have earned several million YouTube

views.

Alexandra is currently co-writing a feature with Marc Forster and has a feature in development, to which she's attached to direct. She has shadowed on the CW/Netflix TV show _Dynasty_ and has a second shadowing assignment on the show in early 2020. She is currently enrolled in the 2019 Sony Television Pictures Diverse Directors

Program.

Alexandra is half Swedish, half Australian, born in Paris and raised in Switzerland. The recipient of multiple scholarships and grants, she speaks six languages, holds a BA in Drama from the University of Bristol (UK), and an MFA in Film Directing from UCLA. Click HERE for awards.
