The project was commissioned by Michelle Thorne and Jon Rogers from Mozilla’s Open IoT Studio. The film explores our developing relationship with voice activated AI assistants, and the future potential of these relationships through three fictional

A set of fiducial markers allowed the headset to ‘project’ a visual interface over the device, removing the need for an actual screen, with simple gestural actions transporting the protagonist into different spectrums and vistas, as and when he chooses. ThingTank is a research consortium exploring new territories in the domestic space where ‘things’ begin to have enough agency to not just communicate with each other, but also interpret the ‘needs’ of humans in the room and primitively design services in response to those ‘needs’. THE FUTURE ENERGY LAB The Lab participants were taken through five different future worlds in order to understand the differences between them. The scenarios varied at many detailed levels: implementation of renewable energy technologies, alternate public transport networks, peer-to-peer energy trading, as well as social and cultural shifts.
