Truly, this is the heart of old New Orleans. The Cathedral-Basilica of St. Louis King of France is the oldest Catholic cathedral in continual use in the United States. As the caretakers of the Historic place of worship, we constantly battle the elements and the aging MUSEUM AT THE OLD URSULINE CONVENT Monday through Friday, 10am-4pm with the last admission at 3:15pm and Saturday 9am-3pm with the last admission is at 2:15pm. POPE'S VISIT

The Historic Visit of His Holiness. The greatest moment in the history of the St. Louis Cathedral was the visit of Pope John Paul II in September, 1987. Pope John Paul paused for a prayer before the statue of Our Lady of Prompt Succor, patroness of New Orleans and Louisiana. Built in 1752, The Old Ursuline Convent in the French Quarter is one of the oldest buildings in the Mississippi River Valley and the oldest example of French Colonial architecture in the United States.The Convent grounds (which include a formal parterre, most of the interior first floor, a rear garden with an 80-by-40-foot BISHOPS OF ARCHDIOCESE Archbishop Cody, Tenth Archbishop. John Patrick Cody was born in St Louis, Missouri, December 24, 1907. In August, 1961, Bishop Cody became Coadjutor Archbishop of New Or leans with right of succession. On June 16, 1965, Archbishop Cody was named to succeed the late Albert Cardinal Meyer as Archbishop of Chicago. ST.
