The trick is to break everything down into achievable chunks. Don’t aim for $1 mil. Don’t aim for a blockbuster. Those goals are too far away to be useful. Aim for something achievable — five figures ($10k) — and hit that target. Then once you’ve nailed it, pick a bigger target and nail that one too. Before you can start, though, it 5 RULES FOR MARKETING CONTENT THAT CONVERTS Advertising. Paid referrals / affiliates. Direct sales. SEO / marketplace placement. Content marketing. (All five ways can lead to word of mouth and “earned” media — and paying for PR is analogous to paying for ads — so these models don’t qualify as a separate mechanism in my universe.) I’m not a fan of options 1 through 3, personally. THE 13 BUSINESS FAILURE MODES A Professional markets and sells their work. A Professional doesn’t let their mistakes define them. A Professional cares more about helping their customers than their idea being unique. A Professional seeks to understand if what others say is true. AKA Once you have the foundation of your newsletter in good shape (see part 1 of this series), your next power-move is changing the way you send emails.. In those experiences, and now, part MY MAGIC RESPONSE TO "HEY, CAN I PICK YOUR BRAIN You don’t have to give a lot of advice to realize that you’re giving the same advice over and over. It might sound annoying, but Step Two of my “magic process” hinges on this fact. The problem with coffee date brain picking is that the advice you give (along with the time spent giving it) is lost into the ether. VALUE VS VALUATION, A LESSON FROM MY CHILDHOOD Value vs Valuation, A Lesson From My Childhood. I think a huge issue in our modern business’s culture is that people think (often subconsciously) that “valuation” is the same as “value creation.”. It is not, even if they rhyme. I remember learning this lesson as a kid, from an unlikely source: comic books. JUST FUCKING SHIP EBOOK The path forward seems both natural and in reach: Step one: start a side project. Step two: finish that side project. Step three: actually SHIP that side project. Step four: get that project in the hands of people who want it, value it, and are happy to pay you for it.
