ABOUT US – SPECIAL OLYMPICS GEORGIA About Us. Special Olympics Georgia provides year-round sports training and athletic competition for children and adults with intellectual disabilities. Our goal is to help bring persons with intellectual disabilities into the larger society under conditions whereby they are accepted, respected, and given the chance to become useful and ATHLETES – SPECIAL OLYMPICS GEORGIA The minimum age requirement for participation in Special Olympics Georgia competition is 8 years of age. While the minimum age requirement for competition is 8 years of age, athletes ages 2-7 can participate via the Young Athletes Program. Young Athletes is an innovative sports play program for children ages 2 through 7.ELIGIBILITY
Eligibility. To be eligible to participate in Special Olympics Georgia, you must be at least eight years old and identified by an agency or professional as having one of the following conditions: intellectual disabilities, cognitive delays as measured by formal assessment, or significant learning or vocational problems due tocognitive delay
ATHLETES AND RESOURCES Athletes are required to engage in an eight-week training program prior to any Special Olympics Georgia competition to develop fitness and skills and learn rules and strategies from their coaches. Special Olympics Georgia also trains and certifies coaches, officials and games management team members to ensure that all athletes receive the VOLUNTEERS – SPECIAL OLYMPICS GEORGIA To volunteer or for questions in regards to volunteering or upcoming events, please contact the Senior Volunteer and Program Manager, Courtney Payne at (229)712-9973 or email her at courtney.payne@specialolympicsga.org. ATHLETE ENGAGEMENT ACTIVITIES This is a friendly competition between each agency, to encourage athletes to get up, get on the move, and go the distance. The purpose is to Walk or Roll in a wheelchair for at least 30 minutes a day to improve your overall fitness. You will be responsible for keeping up and turning in their total distance (miles).COMPETITIONS
State Games. Athletes from Alabama, Georgia, Florida, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Mississippi compete on a regional level in Ice Skating, Alpine Skiing, Sailing, and Tennis. The 2019 Special Olympics Summer Games will be held in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. The Games will be held March 14-21st in 2019.OUR SOGA TEAM
