We set up four classrooms: a $1 room, a $3 room, a $5 room, and a snack room. For the snack, we served cola-flavored and pineapple-flavored slushies. THOSE WHO CAN, DO; THOSE WHO CAN’T, TEACH! Every profession has its share of problems. Some are definitely more difficult than others, but every job also has people who like to make rude comments about the profession, and belittle those who work in it. I can only speak from my own experiences, but I've heard some pretty nasty comments about teachers by parents, CURRICULUM DESIGN FOR DUMMIES I have been busy these past few weeks. My co-teachers and I were given the task of writing up curriculum guides for our respective classes for our upcoming AI accreditation process. It was a challenging task that took lots of hours of research, looking at other curriculum guides, and hours spent writing up my own. FROM 6 TO 5: HOW TO TEACH EFL TO 5-YEAR-OLDS When the new semester began this past March, I got some news. It was nothing bad, just a change. For the past couple of years at my current English academy, I've been teaching the 6-year-old kindergarten classes. But once the new semester began, I moved to teaching the 5-year-old classes. I TEN END-OF-THE-YEAR ACTIVITIES FOR STUDENTS It's that time of the year when everything comes to an end. Students take final exams; teachers grade those exams; final grades are submitted to administration, and report cards are sent out. For both ESL and mainstream classrooms, it's a hectic time as May ends and summer begins. Now, some countries continue school until the ALTERNATIVE ASSESSMENTS IN THE CLASSROOM What is assessment? I previously published a post focusing assessment in the classroom. Assessment is a necessary part of education. It provides educators and administrators with valuable data on student learning, appropriate curricula, and effective teaching strategies. "Assessment" traditionally brings to mind tests, quizzes, and standardized benchmarks for students to pass. COLLABORATIVE LEARNING IN THE ELEMENTARY CLASSROOM Collaborative learning happens when students are placed in pairs or groups of three or more to complete a given task. The task might involve a variety of skills such as finding information, answering questions, writing down ideas or making a story.
