SOMETIMES SHE TRAVELS Inspired by a documentary about the Camino de Santiago, I left my safe, comfortable world in the San Francisco Bay Area to walk 500 miles across northern Spain. All week, and maybe for a little bit longer, I’ve felt kind of “off”, in a number of different ways, all of w hich are unfamiliar to me; discombobulated, forgetful, and über-sensitive (as if I weren’t sensitive enough already), to name just a few.. Yesterday I searched high and low for

my makeup bag.

DAY 1: THE VIRGIN OF ORISSON Day 1: The Virgin of Orisson. September 27, 2015. Tonight I received a lovely surprise in the form of an overseas phone call from a Camino friend I made on the Francés this summer. The unexpected call from Europe inspired me to look through the photographs from my recent Camino and, when I discovered this forgotten video, to share it. FINDING THE RIGHT CAMINO SHOE Shoe Search. Those of you who have been following this blog since its inception in February 2014, know just what lengths I went to in order to find the right pair of shoes. You know it wasn’t an easy process. The details of my extensive footwear search, which included trying out boots by Merrells, Lowas, and Asics, to name a few, can be read here. THE CALL OF THE CAMINO The Call of the Camino. It will not lead you astray.” –Rumi. Hello and happy July! I decided to do a quick check-in to let you know where I am and that all is well, although there has been a major shift, which may surprise some of you and others, not at all. BECOMING A "SHOE GIRL" Sure, I appreciate an attractive pair of shoes (especially on someone else). I even dumped my basic beige “Arizona” Birkenstocks in my late twenties (although I must admit, recently I’ve been considering getting a pair of “Gizeh” Birks) and I’ve resisted buying the Crocs clogs that are so popular where I live. A DIFFERENT KIND OF JOURNEY: LOVE AND DEATH Reply Jen Hofmann March 9, 2015 at 15:05. Sweet Elissa. I can’t stop the tears as I write this response to your beautiful, heartfelt post about Little Boy. My kitty, Sassafras, had kidney-related complications too and, three years ago, I made the same heart-wrenching decision. Bitten by the Travel Bug. I first traveled overseas the summer I was twelve, as a 4-H/L.A.B.O. exchange student in Japan. 30 DAY COUNTDOWN TO MY FIRST CAMINO 30 day countdown to the Camino de Santiago!

I decided to do a quick check-in to let you know where I am and that all is well, although there has been a major shift, which may surprise some of you and others, not at all. I decided to do a quick check-in to let you know where I am and that all is well, although there has been a major shift, which may surprise some of you and others, not at all. 30 DAY COUNTDOWN TO MY FIRST CAMINO 30 day countdown to the Camino de Santiago! Note: Somehow, in the process of typing this post, I was able to muster up the energy to take care of some of the things I was writing about; I did a load of laundry, cleaned the extra bedroom, emptied the dishwasher (and filled it right back up again), and vacuumed. TO TEVA OR NOT TO TEVA ON THE CAMINO My hope is that this blog will not only provide useful tidbits of information for future and fellow pilgrims but that it will also inspire other people, particularly women, to take a risk, put aside fear, and venture into the unknown to follow their dreams. AN INTROVERT ON THE CAMINO Today I was asked by someone how much of my time on the Camino was spent alone vs. with others. It was a question worth pondering, so I spent an hour-or-so going through my photographs and journals to come up with an accurate answer. ACCOMMODATIONS ON THE FRANCÉS 1 The pilgrim hostels, or albergues, along the Camino Francés, were varied and provided all manner of experiences, most welcome, others less so.Yet despite the myriad frustrations that often accompanied the communal living, the rewards far outweighed the drawbacks. I FOUND MY CAMINO JOURNALS “To me, reading through old letters and journals is like treasure hunting. Somewhere in those faded, handwritten lines there is a story that has been packed away in a dusty old box for years.” PURCHASING A CAMINO BACK PACK My hope is that this blog will not only provide useful tidbits of information for future and fellow pilgrims but that it will also inspire other people, particularly women, to take a risk, put aside fear, and venture into the unknown to follow their dreams. GUEST POST: WHAT IS "REAL" LIFE? This guest post was written by my friend, Yeni, one of the first strangers I met my first night on the Camino, and the last Camino friend I said goodbye to in Santiago de Compostela 32 days later. Yeni walked 2,000 kilometers from Vezelay, France to Finisterre, Spain, in May, June, and July this year. A couple weeks ago, I asked Yeni if she would write a “guest post” about why she decided MY 2014 CAMINO FRANCÉS ITINERARY My hope is that this blog will not only provide useful tidbits of information for future and fellow pilgrims but that it will also inspire other people, particularly women, to take a risk, put aside fear, and venture into the unknown to follow their dreams. DAY 5 ON THE NORTE: IBIRI AUZOA TO ZIORTZA Route: Ibiri Auzoa to Ziortza (Albergue Izarbide to Monasterio de Zenarruza) Distance: 25 km (15.5 mi) Albergue: Monastery Zenarruza Departure: 0600 Arrival: 1600 Notes: Today we have completed just over 100 kilometers since our departure from Irún.. Saw only one other pilgrim, Jose Antonio, between start and Markina. Ran into Augustine

in Markina Plaza.

DAY 2 ON THE CAMINO FRANCÉS Day 2 on the Camino Francés: Orisson to Roncesvalles. June 21, 2014. This had to be one of the best days of my life. Walking for hours with new friends through beautiful mountain scenery. Laughing, crying, debating with these pilgrims I had met the afternoon before. It was

pure magic.
