With pride he lists his educational pedigree at Polytechnic High School in San Francisco, and then at the California School of Fine Arts, the oldest art school on the West. After a stint at the San Francisco Examiner, he worked as a full-time sports illustrator with the San Francisco MAURICE SENDAK EXHIBIT AND SALE MAURICE SENDAK (1928-2012) illustrated his first book in 1946 at the age of 18 (published the following year) and went on to become the most important children’s book artist of the 20 th century. In association with Justin G Schiller and Battledore Ltd and in celebration of this 75 th Anniversary, the Society of Illustrators is sponsoring a Retrospective Exhibition and Sale of original NAIAD AND WALTER EINSEL Naiad and Walter Einsel. Naiad and Walter married in 1953. Their similar styles of work enabled them to work collaboratively on book and magazine illustrations, posters, advertisements, package designs and collage boxes. They met while both were art directors – Naiad at CBS, and Walter at NBC. Walter arrived at CBS to apply for an openingTHOMAS BLACKSHEAR
Thomas Blackshear. After graduating from the American Academy of Art in Chicago, Thomas Blackshear worked for the Hallmark Card Company in Kansas City, Missouri. While there, he met the famous illustrator Mark English and became his apprentice.
