SEASON WRAP-UP

Its been a great 2019 XC season. Many personal bests and personal victories. I have seen this team grow together into a family, which is the most important aspect of what this sport is about. All the teams ended the season really well. With Varsity, JV, and C team scores combined, SMSXC was the 2nd best overall team at the 2019 Sunflower League Championship meet! The varsity girls team placed 18th out of 94 teams in the Open Races of NXR-Heartland. The boys varsity placed 46th out of 179 teams in the Open Races of NXR-Heartland. The trend of our team is improving! The coaching staff is very proud of the team and its efforts this year. The Kansas KC Metro Coaches voted recently and SMSXC were honored with two awards. Hannah Gibson was chosen as a 1st Team All KC Metro – Kansas. The Girls Varsity were chosen as a Top 10 Team for the All Metro KC-Kansas awards. Hannah Gibson was also chosen by KS MileSplit for the All-State, All-Classes Honorable Mention team. As we turn our attention to the future, thanks to the seniors that helped to pave the way and show the younger runners the ropes and the family atmosphere of the team. The returning runners will have to continue to build on our prospects by putting in the time and effort in the off-seasons. Winter running will begin on Monday 11/18. To get workouts and other information please join the Distance Remind Group by texting @smsd17 to 81010. In closing, this team is what you the runners make it out to be. If you want a family atmosphere, then you need to build that. Celebrate each others successes and support each other in defeats. We need to support each other in all aspects of our lives! Family first is a great mentality to have, so practice it for each other. HappyThanXCgiving!

The regular season is now behind us and we gear up for the championship season. This week the whole team will compete at the SFL Championship at Rim Rock Farm. The following week the varsity will host the 6A Regional and look to qualify for the state meet. Everything we have done in our training leads us to this culminationof the season.
We are working on putting together the race rosters and hope to have those finalized by Friday. Our goal is to have competitive teams in each race. We also have some individuals which we will need to put in the same races so we can sort out our varsity roster spots heading in the regional meet. We are also aware of the marching band festival conflict. Encourage your runner to communicate with Mr. Adams and the XC coaches about the times of races and departures. If needed, parents can take marching band members from the races as they finish and we will accept notes for runners to ride with other parents for this purpose if needed. Communication with the coaches is KEY! _NOTE FOR THE MEET – THERE IS AN ADMISSION CHARGE. PLANACCORDINGLY_
Meet Info: 2019 Sunflower League Info After the SFL meet, the only runners that are required for practice are the varsity squads as determined by the coaches.
