Make a Contribution. Making contributions to a SMART529 account is easy, whether it's to your own account or the account of a family member or friend. Log in to SMART529 Online. Call Customer Service (1-866-574-3542). Be ready with your bank account information (bank routing number and your account number and type) and contributionamount.
COLLEGE SAVINGS CHOICES Savings Plans Definitions: 529 College Savings Plan: A tax-advantaged college savings program. Coverdell Education Savings (ESA): A trust or custodial account set up solely for the purpose of paying qualified education expenses.The designated beneficiary receives tax free distributions to pay qualified education expenses. REQUEST A DISTRIBUTION Request a Distribution. Only the account owner can withdraw money from the account. The minimum withdrawal amount is $50, and each distribution from your account will consist of a portion of your contributions and a portion of your account's earnings. Distributions will be paid by check and we will send a confirmation of thedistribution.

CONGRESS PASSED THE SECURE ACT EXPANDING 529 PLAN QUALIFIED EXPENSES On December 20, 2019 Congress passed legislation that included expanding the definition of qualified higher education expenses. Section 529 of the Internal Revenue Code now includes expenses for fees, books, supplies, and equipment required for the participation of a designated beneficiary in an apprenticeship program registered and certified with the Secretary of Labor under the NationalApprenticeship Act.
Qualified education expenses also was expanded to include repayment of qualified student loans up to $10,000. This includes amounts of repaid principal and interest on any qualified student loan of either a 529 plan designated beneficiary or a sibling of the designatedbeneficiary.
More information on this new legislation will be provided in the nearfuture.
