Anything that will help you save money on gas is something you should be doing. And there are a bunch of those things out there. Take a look at this complete rideshare guide that will help you save money on gas. THINGS YOU CAN DO TO SAVE MONEY ON GAS There are a lot of small things you can do as a Rideshare driver tosave money
on gas. On their own, each of these things might seem small or inconsequential, but they’ll add up quick. Most of these won’t take any extra time out of your day either. Here’s a quick list of some driving behaviors you can change that’ll help you use less gas and save more money. 1. REFILL YOUR TANK AT THE RIGHT TIME Gas is denser when it is cool. That means you’ll end up with less gas if you refill your car when the gas is warm. So make your gas station visits sometime in the morning or evening when temperaturesare cooler.
You should also avoid getting gas at the end of the week (usually between Wednesdays and Saturdays) whenever you can. Prices might rise on these days and lower again at the beginning of the week. Make getting gas a Sunday or Monday morning chore. 2. DRIVE AS LITTLE AS POSSIBLE This might sound a little backward for a rideshare driver, but if you keep this trick in mind, you’ll end up using a lot less gas than usual. To clear things up, this doesn’t mean you should take fewer fares. Otherwise, what’s the point of being a rideshare driver? Just don’t drive when you don’t have to. Instead of driving around while you’re waiting for your next fare, use SherpaShare’s Compass feature to get ping-maximizing routes recommended for you. Chasing business doesn’t usually work anyway, and it will waste a lot of time and money. Note: this may not work if there are a lot of other rideshare drivers in the area. In this case, you should use SherpaShare’s Heatmap to view real-time driver and passenger location info and head to an area with fewer drivers and more passengers to make sure you get morebusiness.
3. DRIVE SLOWLY AND CONSISTENTLY Anything that makes your car work harder is going to make it use more gas, and that includes driving fast. Driving a few miles over the speed limit doesn’t get you where you need to be any faster anyway,
so slow down and drive just below the speed limit instead. Also, keep your speed consistent. This will let your car use gas more efficiently. Turn on cruise control whenever you can. You might yourself filling up with gas less often when you try this. 4. TURN OFF YOUR ENGINE WHEN YOU CAN When you’re sitting and waiting for your next passenger, make sure the car is turned off. Letting the car idle will waste a lot of gas. Leave the engine off until you have a new passenger. After you’re done with the trip, turn your car off again. It can make a bigdifference.
5. PLAN THE FASTEST ROUTE Because you don’t know where you’ll be driving until you get a passenger, this might be hard to do. But whenever you can, take the fastest and easiest route to their destination that you can. Try to avoid stop lights and stop signs if you can. A road that will let you drive without stopping is always a better choice. CAR MAINTENANCE THAT WILL HELP YOU SAVE MONEY ON GAS Remember, when a car works harder, it uses more gas. That means you should make it as easy for your vehicle to run as possible. And that comes down to maintenance. There are several routine maintenance chores that will allow your car to use less gas. If you do these things often, you’ll be able to keep your vehicle in excellent condition and save more money. Here’s a quick list of some carmaintenance tips.
1. KEEP YOUR TIRES FULL When tires start to lose air, they wear out faster. This means the car has to use more gas than it usually would to keep driving. Tires that are full give your car much better gas mileage. Temperature also plays a part in your tire inflation. The pressure in your tires can change as many as two to three psi. So whenever the temperature goes through an extreme change, make sure you check your tire pressure. Checking your tire pressure isn’t hard, and it’s something you can do on your own if you have the righttools.
If you live in a place that requires snow tires during the winter, make sure you change them back when the snow is gone. When they drive on dry roads, snow tires cause extra friction, and all that will accomplish is wasting gas. 2. KEEP YOUR FILTERS CLEAN You might not think this has much to do with gas, but cleaning out your filters will help your car be fuel efficient. This gets even more important if you live in a particularly dusty area. 3. USE THE RIGHT MOTOR OIL Not ever motor oil acts the same for every car. There’s a type of motor oil out there that’s the best oil for your vehicle, so you should make sure you’re using it. This will make a big difference. When you’re car doesn’t have the right oil, it is forced to work harder and burn through more gas. If you aren’t sure what type of motor oil your car needs, look it up in the car manual or spend some time on the internet. It shouldn’t behard to find.
4. KEEP THE ENGINE IN GOOD CONDITION This means giving your car regular tune-ups. When the engine is in good condition and does what it’s supposed to do, it will run a lot better. If you can’t remember the last time you got a tune-up, it’s been too long. HOW TO SAVE MONEY ON GAS If you’ve always wanted to know how to save money on gas, you now have some tips that can make you more gas efficient. When you use less gas, you save more money. These strategies may seem small, but they’ll add up fast, especially if you do them all together. Looking for some other ways to be a successful rideshare driver? Most Uber and Lyft drivers provide passengers amenities like chargers, but few expect to benefit financially from their offerings according to our most recent customer survey. Over 90% of drivers offered some type of passenger amenity, accordingto the survey.

Survey – March 2018 “Drivers are appropriately cautious about how much they spend on passenger amenities,” said Andrew Pillsbury, VP at SherpaShare. “If drivers can make a one time purchase for chargers or audio cables that contribute to passengers’ rides, that makes a lot of sense. Drivers are understandably cautious about investing in items that need to be frequently replenished.” Drivers were also asked what items they kept on hand in their car for their own use. Over 70% of drivers carried air freshener, and 65% kept paper towels in their car. Other popular items included vomit bags (54%), umbrellas (49%), jumper cables (47%), and first aid kits (39%). Survey 4,928 Comments on Rideshare Drivers Sound Out on Passenger Amenities TAX TIPS FOR UBER & LYFT DRIVERS FROM A RIDESHARE TAX PROFESSIONAL As a rideshare driver, you’re an independent contractor, not an employee. That’s why Uber, Lyft, and other platforms don’t withhold taxes from your earnings. Filing taxes as an independent business owner is new to many drivers, so the professionals at Shared Economy Tax answered some of the most common questions about filing taxes. Use these tips to navigate your way through filing your self-employment taxes and minimizing your tax bill. SHARED ECONOMY TAX Q&A AS AN INDEPENDENT CONTRACTOR, SHOULD I FILE MY TAXES QUARTERLY ORYEARLY?
_While it is common knowledge that individuals are required to file their taxes every year in April, most people don’t know that independent contractors are required to pay quarterly taxes (along with filing 1040-ES statements). That means that if you are making a significant amount of rideshare income after deductions, you’ll need pay taxes on April 15, June 15, Septemeber 15, and January 15 (of thefollowing year)._
WHAT ITEMS CAN I WRITE OFF ON MY TAXES AND WHAT RECEIPTS SHOULD I BE SAVING THROUGHOUT THE YEAR? _Any expense that is both ordinary and necessary is deductible according to the IRS. Ordinary means others are doing it. Necessary means that doing that will generate more income. That includes eating on the road instead of going home to cook. And in that vein, eating out in between rides can be a deduction. Applying those principles is a reliable guide to determining whether something is deductible._ _Have you ever kept a receipt and months later realized the ink had dissipated? We’ve been surprised ourselves when clients show us receipts we can hardly read. To save yourself the hassle, we recommend tracking your data intelligently using financial tools such as SherpaShare’s expense tracking feature. That will also allow you to throw away all your receipts since they are safe in the cloud and ready to export come tax time. Make sure to upload any business meal above $50, as it must have a needs a receipt. Check out SherpaShare’s previous blog post on 32 tax-deductible items you should be tracking._
WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN STANDARDIZED AND ITEMIZED DEDUCTIONS? _The standard deduction is a freebie deduction for all taxpayers. The amount of the standard deduction is determined by your filing status (Single is about $6,000, and Married Filing Jointly is about $12,000). So if you make $10,000 and you take the standard deduction, only the remaining amount may be included in taxable income. The itemized deduction is a taxpayer election to add up deductible categories (medical, dental, taxes paid, mortgage interest, charitable contributions, and job expenses are the most common) and to take an approximate total of those expenses instead of the standard deduction. It only makes sense to take the itemized deduction if it is over the standard deduction. Typically we see homeowners and clients in high-tax states take the itemized deduction. _ _NOTE: the itemized deduction will be very limited next filing season because of tax reform._ ARE THERE TAX BENEFITS FOR INDEPENDENT CONTRACTORS (I.E., IRAS,LIMITATIONS, ETC.)?
_Yes. You can offset your income with an IRA. With a Self-Employed IRA, your contribution limits are much higher._ WHEN I FIRST BECAME A DRIVER, I WAS ASKED IF I WANT TO FILE TAXES AS AN “INDIVIDUAL” OR “CORPORATION/LLC.” ARE THERE MORE BENEFITS TO FILING AS ONE VERSUS THE OTHER? _As a default, you will be taxed as an individual, or as a Sole Proprietor, as it’s commonly referred to in tax-speak. Your other options are to organize an LLC or incorporate as a Corporation. There are many reasons you may want to set up a legal entity such as an LLC or Corporation including, liability, tax purposes, and to build financial credit. The decision to set up a legal entity should be discussed with your tax, and legal advisors, as drivers should understand why an LLC makes sense over something like an S-Corporation, before setting one up._ I INITIALLY CHOSE TO FILE TAXES AS AN INDIVIDUAL. CAN I SWITCH TO FILING AS A CORPORATION (OR VICE VERSA)? _Yes, all platforms allow you to update your taxpayer ID (Social Security for individuals or EIN for legal entities). You would provide the new taxpayer ID of the entity once it is set up._ WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A 1099-K AND A 1099-MISC? _A 1099-K is a transactional statement (amounts paid by another third party, i.e., your rider) and a 1099-MISC is non-employee compensation paid by the platform. It’s very common to receive both, though you will not get a 1099-K if you do not hit the $20,000 mark in gross earnings, or 200 rides. You will not get a 1099-MISC if you do not earn $600 non-transaction payouts._ I DID NOT RECEIVE A 1099 THIS YEAR. HOW DOES THIS AFFECT FILING MYTAXES?
_The law is pretty clear on income: once you make over $450, you’re required to file it. Don’t be like the clients who come to us after they get audited for not reporting. The IRS and state agencies have ways to get income data from these platforms, and as good corporate citizens, the platforms comply when the IRS asks for rider income in a certain jurisdiction. The point is: the IRS can find income without _a1099 _, so file
it._
WHAT ARE SOME POSSIBLE ISSUES I SHOULD TAKE INTO CONSIDERATION WHEN FILING AS AN INDEPENDENT CONTRACTOR (I.E., APPLYING FOR A LOAN)? * _You can pay fewer taxes, but you’ll need to have a system like SherpaShare to track your deductions to reduce your taxable income. _ * _You won’t get employer-subsidized health, life, and disability benefits since you’re out your own, but there are other ways toprocure those perks
. _
* _Getting a loan can be more difficult, as lenders typically require two years of tax returns._ WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN FILING TAXES MYSELF VS. HAVING A TAX PROFESSIONAL DO IT FOR ME? _We usually use the metaphor of moving when it comes to tax options. You have to do it, and you need to decide: do you rent a truck and do it yourself or do you hire? You can do it yourself, but you’re going to have to figure a lot out, work really hard, and during the move, you’re not even sure you tied everything up right. Maybe at the end of the day, nothing breaks, and you get it done, but wouldn’t it be reassuring just to supervise?_ _In the same way, you can always do your taxes on your own, and maybe (just maybe) you never get audited. But wouldn’t it make sense to have top-rate help? At some point, our clients say it does._ _Eventually when that large tax bill does come or when you want tax guidance beyond what you can Google, you’ll want to use a premier tax firm that knows your business. Always ask your professional if they’re signing your return and how many other drivers they’ve served. Ask if they know depreciation and the standard deductions most drivers are missing out on. If you like their answers, try them out. If not, keep looking._ ONLY 7 DAYS LEFT TO FILE YOUR TAXES BY 4/17/2018! 5 WAYS TO FEEL BETTER IN 5 MINUTES OR LESS FOR UBER, LYFT AND DELIVERYDRIVERS
Elika Aird, Blissful Bodies Yoga. Robert Sturman Photography. _Are you beginning to feel the aches, pains and other negative symptoms from sitting in your car all day? According to the Mayo Clinic, “research has linked sitting for long periods of time with a number of health concerns.”
Although we know the antidote is movement, as rideshare drivers, it can feel unrealistic to incorporate long periods of movement into your day. The great news is, the Mayo Clinic also says, “the impact of movement — even leisurely movement — can be profound.”_ _We asked the owner of Blissful Bodies Yoga and part-time Lyft driver, Elika Aird about some easy ways drivers can get moving STARTING TODAY. Here are Elika’s top five tips that ANYONE can do in 5 minutes or less to improve health and feel better._ HIP CIRCLES: One my favorite things to add to my yoga classes. Since we sit so much, it feels terrific to move our bodies in such a fun and fluid way. Hip circles help loosen the lower back and hip muscles and strengthen the core (without the dreaded situp!). INSTRUCTIONS: Put on your favorite music and stand with feet slightly wider than hip width. Circle hips in each direction 20x. Try to breathe with this movement and enjoy! ROLL-DOWNS & ROLL-UPS: Running low on energy? This move gets energy moving through your entire body and stretches the back of your body, and improves circulation. INSTRUCTIONS: Stand with feet hip-width apart. Inhale to lift your arms up and then, bend knees to roll down to the ground, trying to create space through each vertebra of your spine. Roll back up with knees slightly bent and reach arms up and continue 8-10 times. RINGING THE GONG: This is fun and simple way to boost energy by activating your kidney meridians, which run through your low back. According to the Natural Health Zone, the kidneys are “the reservoirof energy
.”
INSTRUCTIONS: Stand with feet slightly wider than hip-width, with your hands in fists. Swing your arms around, hitting the low back (the Gong) as you twist your spine. As you twist Left, look to the left, as you twist right, look right. Continue 30 sec – 1 min. HALF DOG: This pose stretches tight hamstrings and releases low back compression, and feels delightful after a few hours of sitting! INSTRUCTIONS: Stand outside of your car. Roll your window down and place your hands on your car window sill. Walk your feet back and lengthen your spine, so it’s almost parallel to the ground. Stay there for up to one minute and breath deeply to stretch your spinewith ease.
MINI-MEDITATION: Get focused and present to enjoy your day and maximize your earnings potential on the road. Lenny Kravitz said it best, “This moment is all there is.” Even 5 minutes of mindfulness has the power to reduce stress and help you to balance your nervoussystem.
INSTRUCTIONS: This spring aim to find a park or outdoor space where you can get some fresh air and sit on the ground to focus on your breathing for a few minutes. Breathe deeply, without straining. Try to breathe smoothly expanding your lower ribs and low belly, instead of breathing into your chest too much. If you get distracted easily repeat this mantra silently, “As I breathe in I calm my body, as I breathe out I smile.” This calming mantra is from Zen master, Thich Nhat Hanh’s book; Peace is Every Step.
It’s an excellent short book with easy exercises and inspirations to live a more mindful life. It’s available as an audiobook too! Here’s an index of yoga poseswith images and
instructions if you’d like a visual or further instruction. We hope you find it easy to incorporate a few more movements throughout your day and start to feel better with every pose! And if you to take your health to the next level read our tips for nutrition on-the-gotoo.
_Elika Aird, Owner of Blissful Bodies Yoga , RYT, CD(DONA) specializes in various styles of yoga and teaching and has instructed at corporate locations like Coca-Cola, Turner Broadcasting Systems, Google and Stanford University. Elika stumbled upon the path of yoga in 2000 when she injured her back and was so desperately looking for relief from pain and the feeling of being disconnected from her body. She later found not only her body growing stronger, but her mental and spiritual connection deepening as a result of this practice. After many years of frustration trying to find balance through various practices, she can now be grateful for this period of rehabilitation as it allowed her to learn to be more patient, present and find peace despite the circumstances. She also believes she was supposed to encourage people to heal their chronic back pain and experience pure freedom andvitality again._

Comments on 5 Ways to Feel Better in 5 Minutes or Less for Uber, Lyft and Delivery Drivers 7 TIPS FOR SUCCESS WITH UBER AND LYFT _Starting a new gig can come with a steep learning curve. There are a few comprehensive guides out there about starting your rideshare business, but if you’re short on time, those can be daunting. _ _Whether you’re contemplating becoming a rideshare driver, you’ve just started out or you want to refresh your rideshare game, most drivers are happy to take a few tips from the pros to maximize earnings, efficiency, and overall success! The four rideshare experts at GR Rideshare Adventures gave SherpaShare their top tips for starting out on the right foot._ * Get business cards made with your Uber/Lyft referral code on them. * Why? Because: more money. Referrals help grow rideshare presence and awareness in your area, and you get a bounty when your referee hits their requirements. Small markets have a leg up, as most riders haven’t signed up for a gig yet. We recommend Vistaprint for great deals on printing cheap business cards. * Make your own rideshare placards with the info you want to share with your riders and hang them on the back of your headrests. * Some vehicles allow you to customize the wallpaper on your dashboard display console with info. If your vehicle has the feature, create a wallpaper, save it to a jump drive, and upload it. * A placard or wallpaper allows you to start a dialogue with your customers about the services you offer and reminders (i.e., phone charger availability and wearing seatbelts), and preferences they may have like, vehicle temperature or radio station. On the placard/wallpaper, be sure to include the following: your name and instructions to passengers to let you know their preferences. If you’re not the DIY type, you can order placards on Amazonand eBay
.
* Get a monthly car wash subscription. * They’re as little as $19.99 a month and will make a great impression on your passengers, especially if you are transporting business people or airport customers. * Bonus tip: You can write it off on your taxes! Upload your receipt to your expense tracker in the SherpaShare app, so it’ll be readycome tax time.
* Join a local Facebook group to learn from fellow rideshare driversin your market.
* Familiarize yourself with what it’s like to drive in your area through other drivers’ experiences. This will save you time and help you to start earning more right away. * PSA: Before you ask a question, Most questions have been asked before, so it’s crucial to utilize the Search Bar at the top of the group page and search for them before asking the group. You’ll find answers quickly and avoid asking the group repeat questions. Some drivers in these groups will not be welcoming to new group members who post a frequently asked question. * Check out the GR Rideshare Adventures Facebook page where the four of us share our experiences. We also take part in several regional Facebookgroups for drivers.
* You can also communicate with fellow drivers using the Chat feature in the SherpaShare app for tips and tricks of the trade. If you desire to set up your own regional group download the SherpaShare Pulse app for a more robustset chat options.
* Watch YouTube videos to get up to speed quickly. * Do some research on what to expect while rideshare driving, so you’re prepared. Videos show you precisely what to do and what not to do, so you don’t have to learn the hard way! For some fun and crazy (yet informative) videos, check out GR Rideshare AdventuresYouTube
channel.
* Buy an aux cord so riders can quickly plug in and listen to their music. * Riders will appreciate you having this item and are usually thetipping type.
* Track your mileage and expenses. * This is a must. You can write off all your Uber, Lyft and delivery miles, and not just when you have a passenger, but the second you leave your house to work until you get home. We use SherpaShare. It runs in the
background and automatically tracks mileage. SherpaShare also has some fantastic features designed specifically for drivers, such as Travis for your driving stats, Hotspots where demand is likely to be higher, Compass to provide route recommendations and Chat where you can talk to a community of other rideshare drivers. * Check out this blog post for a list of 32 ways you can maximizeyour tax deductions

Tips 6,562 Comments on 7 Tips for Success with Uber and Lyft THE 5 EASIEST WAYS TO STAY SAFE ON THE ROAD FOR UBER, LYFT ANDRIDESHARE DRIVERS
Just driving from point A to point B can be challenging enough. Add in demanding passengers, unfamiliar routes, and constant interruptions, and you could find yourself in hot water before you know it. So we asked the experts at GR Rideshare Adventures for recommendations on stayingsafe on their road.
HERE ARE FIVE OF THEIR BEST (AND LEAST EXPENSIVE) TIPS: * Always drive with a phone mount . A driver who’s continually checking their phone not only leaves a bad impression on riders, but it also distracts the driver and poses some obvious safety concerns. * Use a Bluetooth headset to call passengers hands-free. This allows you to keep two hands on thewheel at all times.
* Keep extra headlight bulbs. If it’s 1 am and your bulb goes out, your night is done. In fact, when one bulb goes out, replace both at the same time if you can. And keep the old ‘good one’ as a spare. * Keep two extra wiper blades in your trunk. Replace both wipers when one goes down. And keep the old ‘good one’ as a spare. * Use a free app to let loved ones know where you are. Share your location with your significant other via an app like Find my Friends for iPhone or Life360 . So even if you’re too busy to call, they’ll know where you are. And they’ll know your last location in case of an accident or alien abduction. _SherpaShare Pro Tip:_ Download the Wish app for crazy good deals on wiper blades, other driving safety items and literally anything you need for rideshare business. Look for the orange car icon if you need faster shipping. Get Wish for iPhoneor Android

NUTRITION ON THE GO: NUTRITIONAL TIPS FOR UBER, LYFT, AND DELIVERYDRIVERS
We all seem to need more money and money is likely one of the top reasons you began your gig. Freedom might be a close second. So you’re making money, and you technically set your schedule, but then there’s reality; another pick-up around the corner, a new incentive to reach, a schedule you want to adhere to for peak business hours, traffic jams, downtime and inconsiderate customers, just to name afew.
So how do you tackle it all and cope with frustrating days on the road? You overwork, skip your workouts, cut back on time spent with family and friends, and even skip meals. Keeping up with this exhausting lifestyle leaves little time for relaxation, enjoyment and personal wellness. Let’s change that! Here at SherpaShare, we want to help you achieve your goals and enjoy life, so we’re dedicating a blog series to driver wellness. Over the next several weeks, we’ll provide tips on how to boost your physical, emotional and mental well-being while out on the road. We hope you find a few helpful tips along the way! NUTRITION ON THE GO: NUTRITIONAL TIPS FOR UBER, LYFT, AND DELIVERYDRIVERS
Whether you run up and down Manhattan with Uber or manage deliveries with the newest app, every minute you aren’t maximizing your time is a minute you could be making more money or doing something you enjoy. Don’t derail your day by letting yourself get hangry––maximize your money and keep yourself healthy by being proactive about nutrition when driving. Here are some action items you can take to reap the benefits of positive nutrition on the go. TIP NUMBER 1 – EAT SMALLER MEALS TO STAY CONSISTENTLY ALERT Do you know the feeling you get after eating a huge fast food meal? Don’t let this discomfort and exhaustion hold you back from making money. Eat a smaller meal now, and you’ll stay consistently alert onyour rides.
According to the National Institute of Health, “greater eating frequency (snacking) may promote positive energy balance in adults.” Your body is getting nutrition throughout the day, which keeps it operating evenly without ups and downs in energy levels. _ACTION ITEM:_ Pack snacks! A small insulated cooler, tucked in the trunk of your car, is perfect for your must-have snacks from home. Good ideas are cheese sticks, grapes or seasonal fresh fruits, and nuts. I love these soft and chewy Cranberry & Almond barsand a pack of
three is only $3!
TIP NUMBER 2 – AVOID A SUGAR CRASH Making healthy food choices helps drivers remain alert by keeping blood sugar levels consistent throughout the day. Energy drinks and sodas lead to a big crash, which leads to long-term fatigue. When you do take in sugars, make sure they are natural sources like seasonalfresh fruits.
Action Item: Start ditching your soda habit by decreasing your intake or getting sources of caffeine without added sugar (coffee or tea works well). My favorite afternoon pick-me-up tea is Mighty Leaf’s White Orchard green tea. The aroma
is delightful, and it doesn’t make me jittery. TIP NUMBER 3 – GET HYDRATED Seventy-five percent of American adults are chronically dehydrated. Yet, something as simple as bringing a water bottle with you each day can help you consume more water. Water keeps temperature normal. It cushions joints. It protects your tissue. After just one glass of water, you can feel totally refreshed. _ACTION ITEM:_ Never leave home without your favorite water bottle. I use a Swell bottle because it keeps my water cold all day long. Add a slice of lemon or cucumber for added health benefits and delicious taste. Also, bring foods that are high in water to your diet. NUTRITION ON THE GO: NUTRITIONAL TIPS FOR UBER, LYFT, AND DELIVERYDRIVERS
TOP 12 ST. PATRICK’S DAY TIPS FROM SEASONED RIDESHARE DRIVERS St. Patrick’s Day is this Saturday, March 17 and celebrations will be in full swing in cities across the country. St. Patrick’s Day can be one of the most profitable days of the year for drivers if done right, so we asked the seasoned drivers from GR Rideshare Adventures to share their top tips for anextra lucky day!
TIPS FOR _BEFORE_ YOU HIT THE ROAD ON ST. PATRICK’S DAY: * Your local city likely has large events in connection with St. Patrick’s Day and often event organizers create maps forparty-goers.
_TIP:_ Acquaint yourself with designated pickup and drop off spots to make the most of your time and provide smooth trips to riders. If you want to go the extra mile to delight riders, print some of those handymaps to pass out.
* Local celebrations will vary based on your market, but here in Grand Rapids, Michigan we have an event called Irish on Ionia that starts at 7 AM and goes until bar close at 2 AM. The early morning hours will yield fewer pickups with milder riders, but they’ll increase through the day and peak from 9-2 AM with more lively passengers. _TIP:_ Check local event times and determine when you want to drive based on your goals and tolerance for partyers. * It might be tempting to skip a car wash before a busy day like St. Patrick’s Day, but a tidy car makes a great impression on riders. They’re paying you for their service, and clean cars are key factors in getting better tips and rider satisfaction. _TIP:_ Get a car wash and vacuum out your before you start driving, especially if you plan on driving during the day. The investment should more than pay for itself in tips! * Unfortunately puke can be part of days like St. Patrick’s Day. Even if it happens in your car, you can still earn much more than the cleaning fee if you’re up to the task of cleaning up the messyourself.
_TIP:_ Grab yourself some medical grade puke bagsto
mitigate a huge mess. You can pick up some gloves and a mask from your local drug store if you want to be extra prepared. Keep in mind you’ll want to air out the car for about an hour if odors linger. * While it is always a good idea to have a Dash Cam for your protection, it is especially helpful on days where you can expectback-to-back rides.
_TIP:_ Use a dash cam and keep the time stamp on your footage. It’ll help you quickly track down owners who’ve left things behind or people who have “accidents” in your vehicle. We use a Vantrue ProN2 Pro
,
which records high quality both inside and outside the car. It also has nighttime LEDs, for excellent recording at night. Note: Make sure the memory card you utilize can store enough for the entire day ofdriving.
* Making money can be serious business sometimes, but driving shouldbe fun too.
_TIP: _Get in the spirit! Make St. Patrick’s Day fun for you and your riders by decorating your vehicle and handing out inexpensive trinkets, like green beads from Dollar Tree.
Your enthusiasm will improve the rider experience and often result in great tips and comments. Most importantly, don’t forget to weargreen!
TIPS FOR _WHILE_ YOU’RE ON THE ROAD THIS ST. PATRICK’S DAY: * Allowing the wrong rider in your car could cost you time andmoney.
_TIP:_ Always have riders verify your (driver) name and their (rider) name. Leave your doors locked and roll your window down slightly to confirm names BEFORE the riders enter your vehicle. * Should a rider need to go to a different address then listed, the rider should change the address in their app. Drivers shouldn’t make this change, as they could have the wrong rider. The same goes for extra stops, the rider should add them. _TIP:_ Politely ask riders to make changes to trips to ensureaccuracy.
* On multiple occasions, we have provided water to the bar crowd, and it always ends up spilled all over our vehicles. If you do not have leather seats that could end your day very early, or at least make you take breaks resulting in money lost. _TIP:_ We do not suggest OFFERING bottles of water to the bar crowd. Keep a few mini-bottles with you and provide them if someone is clearly in need of or asks for water. * It is always best to know all the local bars and watering holes in your town. The better you know routes based on time of day and traffic/construction the more you’ll make. If you deviate from the route, always check that the rider is ok with it. _TIP:_ Take a drive around before big days and log in to your SherpaShare app to check Hotspots for a list of popular venues and to get real-time trending events. Help your fellow drivers out by contributing hotspots to the list. * Puke, pee, blood can be part of the job. Yes, we’ve experiencedall of these.
_TIP:_ Always do a quick check of your back seats for bodily fluids after each ride. Your dash cam will have it recorded so you can clean up and move on quickly knowing you have the documentation. * We’ve all used intuition to make decisions about whether to cancel trips or power through. If you pull up to a rider’s pick up spot and something seems off to you, it’s okay to cancel the rideand move along.
_TIP:_ The most important safety tip we can think of is, GO WITH YOUR GUT FEELING. No amount of money is worth risking your safety! From all of us at SherpaShare and GR Rideshare Adventures, we hope you have a super fun, successful and safe St. Patrick’s Day.Cheers!
