LIL' HORNET
Lil' Hornet Since I figured out the Pico Stick, I've been searching for a good aerobatic trainer -- something smallish (mostly for aesthetic reasons -- I like small planes), medium speed (faster than the Pico Stick or Tiger Moth and fast enough to do aerobatics, but not a pylon racer), with full controls and predictable flying characteristics. The Formosa might have worked, but in its current GIMP TUTORIAL: TAPERED LINES Double tapers. You can even do double-tapered lines. For that, choose the Size menu in the dynamics editor and drag the upper right point of the curve down to the bottom. Then drag the middle up so your curve looks like an inverse U. You may want to go back to Tool Options and turn off Reverse . And voilà -- lovely smooth double-tapered lines! SLOPE SOARING TIPS FOR BEGINNERS A good slope soaring hill usually has a cliff or steep area aligned more or less facing the wind. The wind hits the cliff and gets directed upward. You need to stay above that area -- so once you're in the air, turn to fly crosswind along the ridge line, then turn fairly sharply and fly back the way you came. TEE IN PYTHON (SHALLOW THOUGHTS) Tee in Python I needed a way to send the output of a Python program to two places simultaneously: print it on-screen, and save it to a file. Normally I'd use the Linux command tee for that: prog | tee prog.out saves a copy of the output to the file prog.out as well as printing it. That worked fine until I added something that needed to prompt theuser for an answer.
