The mission of the NORTHERN CALIFORNIA SOY AND TOFU FESTIVAL is to educate the public about the health benefits and various uses of soy and tofu. In adhering to these goals, the Northern California Soy and Tofu Festival — an annual fundraiser for the NICHI BEI FOUNDATION — strives to be a vehicle for community-building and leadership development while adhering to the Foundation’s mission of keeping the community connected, informed and empowered. This exciting culinary and cultural event showcases soy and tofu vendors, provides an educational forum on the various uses and benefits of soy and tofu, offers live music and cultural entertainment, interactive games and tofu eating contests, and culminates with the Soy and Tofu Dessert Competition. Proceeds from the Festival help to publish the first nonprofit ethnic community newspaper of its kind in the country, the _Nichi BeiWeekly._

The Nihonmachi Street Fair considers itself the original “melting pot” of street fairs, with many aspects of Asian-Pacific American life—and San Francisco’s cultural life—expressed through performance, tradition, art, music, food, and community outreach andservice.
Continually evolving to reflect the city it celebrates while staying true to its original idea: to use this event as a platform to mentor Asian Pacific American youths and foster their leadership and communication skills through volunteerism and community service. The Fair is produced, staffed, and organized by volunteers, thus providing practical, hands-on experience in collaboration, entrepreneurship, andproblem solving.

Likewise, we celebrate the fall by featuring top Japanese cultural groups of San Francisco and greater Bay Area. Therefore, experience the roar of Japanese drumming, beauty of Japanese dance, precision of martial arts, and more! We will features these groups on two stages of performances.
